ELVIS SLAG
ELVIS wants to know: WHAT was Ribidup "writer" and goatee-beard impersonator KERRY BUCHANAN doing playing a TATTOOIST on an episode of SHORTLAND STREET? Will he return in the TOP RATING TVNZ COMEDY to have GROUP SEX with DR ROPATA in a SPA POOL? Will NICK D'ANGELO join him? And if NICK DOES, will there be ANY WATER LEFT? But ENOUGH of POPULAR CULTURE. Turn your BACK on MINDLESS PROLETARIAT pursuits. Join ELVIS for a look at the LOCAL ARTS. This month: THE ART OF WRITING A HIT SINGLE. One of the most IMPORTANT parts of a SONG is the LYRIC. These CAREFULLY CRAFTED words tell us WHAT the singer songwriter is SAYING. For instance in the BEAUTIFUL BUTTON NERDS single 'NATURE* the lyrics say: "Doo do doo do do do do-do-do-do,” conveying perfectly the
vision of nature in all its many forms. Also, in the beautiful FLIPSOCKET JIKS song ‘SHE SPEEDS’ the lyrics tell us "SHE-EEEEEE SPEEE-EEE-EEE-EE-EEDS,” which tell us that the female character GOES VERY FAST. In the new Jickstricket Flicks single 'DONE* the lyrics say ‘DOOO-00000-OOOONE," conveying the ARTISTIC THEME of being "done.” HEADY STUFF. But these ideas don’t simply DROP OUT OF THE SKY. They are not CASUAL; ideas CONCOCTED in a SHOUTING DRUG FRENZY (EXCEPT if they are lyrics for BAILTER SPACE). Here for the first time, ARCHIVAL ELVIS presents FAMOUS EARLY DRAFTS of HIT SINGLE LYRIC SHEETS. Flick through to find TRACES of those HUMALONG HITS. Match them! Name them! Swap them with your pals!
