X-Tatic Fashion Show, Sunday Sept 6, Metro, Wellington. On a cold, wet, and miserable Sunday 600 of the capital’s hippest groovers turned out for what was promised to be the hottest avant garde fashion show in the country. The recently refurbished Metro proved an ideal venue, with organiser Tania Rupapera (co-owner of Unity) determined to promote only the best: Cheryl Vuilermin, Zambesi, WORLD, Unity, Lead Hais, and JJ. Vuilermin showed longer lengths, strong colour blocks, and great feminine layering. Zambesi continued to show excellence in modern luxury by also layering the body with the best fabrics. WORLD redefined denim with their jackets, jeans, and coats in funky original 50’s fabrics of the wildest cloth. Leod Hais have an emphasis on linen for summer, with Unity featuring Marvel clubwear, and Karen Walker showing modern suits for modern women.
The show was perhaps a tad long, but a hit nonetheless. It’s great to see NZ fashion succeeding in the city which not so long ago gave us those tragic Olympic “ uniforms. JUICY LUCY
