0898 BEAUTIFUL SOUTH
The Beautiful South are conoisseurs of classic pop, a band whose gutsy tunes and bittersweet lyrics combine to produce music that is truly memorable. Vocalist and songwriter Paul Heaton, recently described by NME as “the best soul singer in Britain”, formed the Beautiful South at the beginning of ,1989 after the demise of his previous band, The Housemartins. The debut album ‘WELCOME TO THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH’ and 1990’s follow-up ‘CHOKE’ became instant commercial and critical successes — .‘brightening Britains musical landscape’ said Record Mirror. Like The Housemartins, harmony, humour and pure pop play the major roles in The Beautiful South game plan. ‘oß9B’ is The Beautiful South’s third album. Produced by Jon Kelly, who has previously worked with artists as diverse as Peter Gabriel and Deacon Blue, it is a symphonic sweep of sound that adventurously pushes the band into new musical territory. Lifting themselves higher and higher. The Beautiful South are without peer in their own quality pop field. '- , 1
