Pacer Theatres is to be congratulated on making movie-going even more affordable. Its Tuesday $4.95 special has now been extended to Wednesday as we 11... Master film-maker Martin Scorsese is back in action again with his main man Robert De Niro taking the lead in CAPE FEAR. As the title suggests, it's a real chiller (with an all-star cast too!)... Bruce Beresford is also back from Driving

Miss Daisy with BLACK ROBE. Based on actual accounts sent by Jesuit missionaries to their superiors in France, it's a tale of hardship among the 'savages' of New France (Canada) ... Some US critics have been harsh, but they have obviously missed the point. THE LAST BOY SCOUT\s well worth the $3 million paid to the scriptwriter alone before filming began. Starring Bruce Willis and Living Color's Daman Wayans this is a wonderfully excessive action adventure which only morons could take seriously. This is finally a film worthy of its RlB certificate (unlike SACRED SEX}... another must-see is BOYZ'N THE HOOD starring Larry Fishbume and rapper Ice Cube. Okay, so it's only got half the action we were expecting from a 'gang' film, but it more than makes up for it in story.

Increase the peace... Dance films come in cycles: you learnt how to hussle for Saturday Night Fever, moonwalk for Breakin', grind your pelvis for Dirty Dancing and fuck on the dancefloor for Lambada. Well, THE MAMBO KINGS ain't like that. Okay, maybe a little. Based on a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, it stars Armand Assante, Antonio Banderas, Cathy Moriaty, and Desi (I Love Mommy) Arnez Jr... We don't mind 'serious' films if they've got Helen Bonham Carter in them. WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD<icx> also stars Rupert Graves, Judy Davis, and Helen Mirren. An absorbing tale (loosely) about, heck, we can't reduce it to one sentence!... THE BRIDGE is another 'serious' film, but somewhat easier to pigeonhole. Its the passionate account of the collision

between a beautiful woman, her powerful husband and a young artist tom between his obsession with his art. and his love of a beautiful woman (married to a powerful husband). Set in Suffolk 1887... Sally Field plays an over-the-top soap opera ('daytime drama' to the fans) star in a lather about being pushed out of the limelight by her scheming co-stars. SOAPDISH also stars Kevin Kline, Whoopi . Goldberg, Robert Downey Jr ... You can see Nicole Kidman naked in BILLY BATHGATE, which also features Bruce Willis doing the deep sea boogie in his blue suede cement shoes. Dustin ;■ Hoffman is excellent as gangster 'Dutch' Shultz who adopts young Billy as his protege. Unfortunately, the lad who plays Billy is too angelic for the r01e... We don't mind 'dumb' films if they've got Christina Applegate in them. DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER'S DEAD is a comedy (natch) about how to survive when Mom's away two months and the babysitter drops dead ... FREDDY'S DEAD— THE FINAL NIGHTMARE another 'dumb' film and promises to be the last in the Elm Street series. (They always say that about Slasher flicks).
