Why is everyone attacking Matthew Hyland? He is quite obviously a journalistic genius. I have been reading Rip It Up since its inception and he is easily the most interesting writer ever to have contributed to it. Why don't you give him his own column? Let Simon Laan masturbate elsewhere. 'lnc Music' criticise Mr. Hyland for not supporting 'unsigned alternative bands' but if they are 'bland' why should he? As far as I'm concerned, mediocre bands should not be hyped purely because they are local — if I was reviewing the Garbage and the Flowers I'd certainly be 'blatantly rude' about them. . - ' Matthew Hyland is RlLfs best writer and should be allocated more space; only two reviews in the September issue — come on! REM fans may hate him but this can only be a good thing. REM, of course, are tiresome alternative AOR — anyone with ears recognised this after 'Reckoning'. Sort out your priorities, Murray Cammick.
