FREAK POWER SLEAZED Freak Power have their debut 10" Sleazed released this month on the Wildside label. The EP was co-produced by S.P.U.D.'s Matthew Heine. Tracks are 'Bad Sister', 'Let It Fade', 'This Beast' and 'Hate Vibe'. The group now have a new bass - player, Aaron Spankin. Freak Power will open for Australia's the Hard-Ons, on a North Island tour, early December. To help curb home-taping, the Sleazed cover bears the warning: "Unauthorized reproduction of this record will lead to a kick in the head « and a molotov at yer car!" , AIR NZ's KIWIBEAT Air New Zealand's inflight "Chartbeat" channel is currently featuring a good percentage (one third) NZ music. Tracks programmed this month include Headless Chicken's 'Cruise Control', Houseparty's 'Dangerous Love', Shona Laing's 'Drive Bavy Drive', Moana's 'AEIOU', Greg Johnson Set's 'Two Feet Off the Ground', Strange Love's 'Turn Your Lights On' and Dance Exponents' Who Loves Who the Most'. NZ artists also appear on the airline's "Worldbeat" and "Mellow Magic" channels. TANGATA INDIE A Wellington indie label Tangata Records has commenced a distribution deal with BMG Records. The label is run by musician Neil Cruickshank in Wellington and programmer/producer George Hubbard in Auckland. The label has been set up to ' specifically promote Maori and Polynesian music and styles featured will include reggae, dance, rap, funk and folk. The first release will be a

compilation. Artists who will appear on the label include Ruamoko, Hinewehi Mohi, Ahurangi, Caution, Emma Paki and Maree Sheehan.

TV3'sTVFM COMPILATION TV£'s Coca Cola TVFM have compiled a NZ hits compilation with Festival Records. Entitled Stand Strong Aeotearoa, the album will be promoted by advertising on TV3. The artists featured are These Wilding Ways, Greg Johnson Set, Charlotte Sometimes, Headless Chickens, World Gone Wild, MC OJ & Rhythm Slave, Scarf, Straitjacket Fits, Emulsifier, Push Push, Ngaire, Six Volts, Moana & the Moahunters, Parker Project, Smokeshop and Shihad.

PARKER PROJECT GETS REAL

The David Parker Project has followed up their hit single 'Tears On My Pillow' with a local composition 'Looking for the Real Thing'. Musicians on the record include guitarist Joel Haines of These Wilding Ways and keyboards player Stuart Pearce.

COMMUNICADO MAKE VIDEOS The TV production house that brings NZ That's Fairly Interesting and Mud & Glory are making their facilities available to make band videos in conjunction with the NZ On Air video grants. After spending a week in Sydney promoting their single 'Body Rhymes', MC OJ & Rhythm Slave will tour NZ opening for De La Soul in the three main centres. The video co-stars are Rottweiller hounds. BREATHING CAGE The Breathing Cage album is due for release late October on the Tall Poppy label. Jay Clarkson's project was recorded following her group's winning the Rheineck Rock Award in 1989. The first single is 'Memory Lane'. A video has been filmed for the single.
