From the English Art School of Oxford, come Ride, the “Hope for the 90s”

according to Sounds and NME. After three critically acclaimed EPs in the UK, here’s their first USA album. Key cuts are ‘Seagull’, ‘Polar Bear’, ‘Here & Now’ and Vapour Trail’.

MARC COHN Marc Cohn

Cohn is mult-talented — a keyboard player, vocalist, songwriter and a

producer. Born in Ohio, educated in L.A., Marc moved to New York to find a creative environment. Guests on the album include James Taylor dueting on ‘Perfect Love’ and ace drummer Steve Gadd. Cohn cover'’s Willie Dixon's ‘29 Ways' — don’t miss Cohn's emotive, whiskey-smoke tenor.

CHRIS ISAAK Wicked Game The David Lynch star who wears suits perfectly tailored from out of fashion curtain material. ‘Wicked Game’ graced the soundtrack of Wild at Heart and as so few people had discovered Chris Isaak's critically acclaimed albums, the best tracks are gathered here making a 12 track Best Of compilation. Awesome!

THE MOTHERS The Mothers - W This band had to be on the “Elektra” label, as their sound is a post-modernist revision of a sonic/ song heritage that includes MCS, Tim Buckley, Television and the Stooges. This Yorshire quartet did highly acclaimed indie recordings with World Party’s Karl Wallinger. Singer / writer Wayne Holmes is a : master of trippy psychedelia, hippy magic and guitar licks. Divine!

RIDE Today Forever

Ride are scheduled to tour Australia and their new LP Nowhere has received critical acclaim. The band started their career on the UK indie Creation label and Today Forever, their prior EP, is now released in NZ featuring the tracks ‘Today’, ‘Unfamiliar’, ‘Sennen’ and ‘Beneath’

KEITH WASHINGTON ° Make Time for Love Washington has guested with such groups as the Dramatics and Funkadelic and co-wrote ‘Hey Lover’ for Freddie Jackson. His debut is on Quincy Jones’ Qwest label and he - works with hot producers Paul Lawrence (Freddie Jackson) and Barry Eastmond (Jeffrey Osbourne). First single is smooth ballad ‘Kissing You'.

LISA FISCHER So Intense A woman vocalist who has backed the Rolling Stones (dueted with Jagger on ‘Gimme Shelter’ last year) , Luther Vandross, Chaka Khan and more, Lisa Fischer has now gone solo with her former employer Luther (& Marcus Miller) producing 4 tracks and aces Arif Mardin and Narada also doing tracks. Lisa has a coloratura soprano covering a four octave range. This lady means business!

STRESS : Stress This UK trio is a multi-ethnic, multi-racial British group with a rich and varied sound. Their material is all original and laden with intriguing cultural references. Check out this unique blending of international influences into a full, rhythmically dynamic sound.

Billy Sheehnan’s (David Lee Roth

ex-bassist) supergroup are back with another tour-de-force. Billy has some of rock's greatest players — Pat Torpey (drums), Paul Gilbert (guitar) and Eric Martin (vocals) and producer is Kevin Elson (Journey, Europe). First single is ‘Green Tinted Sixties Mind’.

GERARDO Mo’ Ritmo The Spanish speaking dude with the monster Latin beat pop hit ‘Rico Suave’ delivers a debut LP strong on funk and hip sampling. Fab tracks include the R&B ‘The Groove Remains the Same (Mo'Ritmo)’ (guests, the Temptations), the street style ‘We Want the Funk’ and the dance swing of ‘When the Lights Go Out.

THE HORSE FLIES Gravity Dance From the USA indie scene, their last album was 1987's Human Fly. They've got wonderfully inventive grooves and a unique art rock sensibility with a

wacko bent — like ‘ll Need A Plastic Bag’ (To Keep My Brains In)'. |

Complementing their wild side are the ballads, the sad ‘Sally Ann’ and the dreamy ‘Two Candles’ and the eerie Pink Floyd-ish ‘Time Is Burning'. ]

ELEVENTH DREAM DAY Lived to Tell e This band is the rave of the USA college radio circuit, founded in 1983 and made its big label debut with Beet in 1989. This album was recorded in a tobacco barn, Niland’s farm in Kentucky and it has been recorded “live” with no overdubs to get less of a “studio” sound. Spin wrote, “These guys revel in their ability to write a good song.” ’

JANE’S ADDICTION Jane’s Addiction Re-issued by massive demand, this indie (Triple X label) 1987 live at the Roxy album is now available via Warner Bros. Tracks include Stones’ ‘Sympathy For Devil’, Lou Reed's ‘Rock’N'Roll’, ‘Whores', ‘Pigs In Zen”, Trip Away’ and ‘Jane Says'. Live and lively.

BETH NIELSEN CHAPMAN Beth Nielsen Chapman A significant new singer / songwriter, Chapman found success after relocating to Nashville, writing hits for Tanya Tucker and Willie Nelson (‘Nothing | Can Do About It Now’, ‘Ain’t Necessarily So’). After writing numerous country hits, Chapman has written for her own album. She is not confined by styles, “If an idea would make a great R&B song, then | try and write it that way.” A major talent.
