TIPS FOR SUCCESS
| am wondering about getting some advice from you. I am in a band that is very much in need of some credibility, media acceptance etc. The story is as follows: To be taken seriously we decided we should only do Doors and Sonic Youth covers and sound like the Velvet Underground. However this did not do the trick. So in our press release kit we said we were from Dunedin. But people could tell we weren't from the Pqst Office stamp on the envelope. So we called our first single ‘Dunedin Life’ instead. You would think we would have made it by now. But no. We decided to change our name to the Flying Grey Lynn Nuns. We knew for dead certain that this would get us favourable media coverage. But word got out that we were really from Te Puke (which is true). We have tried all the things that get other bands the right sort of attention but it is not working. | think we will just have to accept the fact that we are not inner city groovers and will always be uncool no matter how black our clothes are (apart from that, Auckland is too far for us fo get fo on our tractor). What can we do? ’ Depressed band leader : Back Blocks farm Te Puke
