Cited by Johnny “Guitar” Watson, Albert Collins and Frank Zappa as their favourite guitar player, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown brings a diverse range of styles to his guitar playing. His music is a mixture of Texas swing, R&B, country, jazz and Cajun. Brown is also a multiinstrumentalist, being proficient at harmonica, mandolin, violin and drums. Born in Louisiana in 1924, Brown got his first break in

Houston, Texas, when the influential promoter Don Robey gave him a support slot behind T-Bone Walker. Brown has had his own TV show, toured Africa and the USSR, is a deputy sheriff in New Mexico and a regular fixture at the Montreux Jazz Festival. His tour begins in Christchurch May 18, plays Wgton the 19th, the Gluepot May 20 & 21, and the Power Station the 22nd.
