'ARRY BACK FROM THE GRAVE
’ARRY
T With Ayatollah Khammicky - getting ’is way last month, I took’ 1 an enforced ’oliday - much to the relief of those from Palmerston Cheese, Simon Grigg and those ’orrible bands] that played (at|Bol| Propeller’s benefit last month. This month ’as been a jmm totally boring one and, with the abovementioned dictator not letting me slag any more 1 bands, I went to the movies. Started off with a Sunday night at the Lido catching the ■first [of four ’orror movies, The Shining. Not a bad one but not as l much] blood and guts as I like to see. Only one I person ’ad an axe put through ’im - all the waiting for that l wasn’t . worth it. Back ’ome to the black and white (best for these movies) ItoJ see The Birds. Yah, seen iit before quite a few times and the same comment - not enough blood and guts. If a movie is going to claimUfl world-wide disaster they may as well do it like George A. Romero’s masterpiece Zombies, Dawn of the Dead. Not for the squeamish but it gets a bit funny after a while. ,
Wednesday brought on Friday the 13th 111 in 3D. What | a pile of [ trash. The best 3D effect was the bloody credits. There was ; no] blood spurting out of the screen, no axes or pitchforks ’itting you. Just popcorn and yoyos. Basically the same sort mflE I idea las J The Texas Chainsaw Massacre but, bar the occasional | jump, this film ’ad no mouth-opening, gutwrenching good orror. The Burning started in Auckland on Friday but [after 'Friday) tHeWth} I wouldn’t pay $3.50 to see such rubbish ' again. Back to the Sunday ’Orrors (either during or J after Radio With Pictures) and } Tarantula - 1955 and you couldn’t expect worse. ! Bring back Dr Phibes. Anyrate, the Auckland Film Festival is bringing a good I one - Creepshow. Friday, July 21, 11pm - see you there.
