Ex Nerve (Steve Connelly) ex Stallion (Giang Nguyen) and ex Prowler (Alistair Penrose) along with newcomer make up new band Straight Lace. New look Foreign Agent have returned simply as the Agents. The Shorelines new Regines bar should provide live work for local bands once the initial promotion and "overseas band" attraction dies down.

ChCh Battle of the Bands is on again during the first two weeks of August. First prize is SIOOO cash and two days recording in 3ZM's studio. Runner-up gets same studio time and SSOO. He is also looking for acts to play the Gladstone early week. White Boys, new band for Mark Brooks (ex Vauxhalls, Newtones), will soon be doing early weeks at Gladstone .:. Midge Marsden's Jumpers will hit the Glad midAugust ... They Were Expendable and Not Really Anything set off soon on Southerly Change tour. NRA will use Expendables' Robert as second drummer on tour. Expendables will also do a quick tour of major centres when their Big Strain six-song EP is released early August. NILA plan a live 12" of two songs recorded at the Gladstone.

Auckland . The tapes from the Mainstreet Fall gig are apparently at last to make vinyl. By agreement with the band, a live album, entitled Fall In A Hole, and possibly a 12" 45 will be pressed. The same persons seem likely to do something similar with tapes from the recent Birthday Party tour ... Dave McArtney has just begun work on a new solo album .at Harlequin. Overseas response to demo tapes has already been encouraging and McArtney plans to play live later with a pick-up group under the Flamingos banner ... new Narcs single will be 'Look the Other Way'. Recorded at Harlequin, it's the first digitallyrecorded single in NZ. Keyboardist Liam Ryan is now a permanent member, of the band. Wellington From July 4, Access Radio (783 <hz) will run the NZ Green Music Show every Monday from spm to 3pm. Only contemporary NZ music, with the emphasis, on previously unaired music, will be played by DJs Bryan Staff and John Barry.
