WELLINGTON The first single from the Tigers "Red Dress"/"l Don’t Want To Go Home Tonight” is now scheduled for release on April 8. The band will record an album with EMI but no dates have been set. Tigers have upcoming dates in Hamilton, New Plymouth and Auckland. To be recorded at Marmalade are Dennis O’Brien (eroneously called Kevin O’Brien in March RIU) and Rob Winch ... EMI are to record an album by country star Patsy Rigger. Reel to Real have recorded demos of three original numbers. The band are taking time out in mid-April to rework material before hitting the road again ... Bad Brakes recently pulled out of their North Island tour, cancelling several engagements. Guitarist Shane Hewet has quit. Rumour has it that ownership of the Rock Theatre has changed, although whether or not this will bring about any change in the operation of the sporadic venue is not clear. In Memoriam Dept: Gone but not forgotten are Notes and Dirt Cheap ... acts at Last Resort in April include Zig Zag (10-13), Reel to Real (17-20), Pop Mechanix (24-27) and Bad Brakes (28-30). R. CHRISTCHURCH Newz gathered together 30 or so Christchurch notables, including Mark Morgan, Rob White, Nevin Topp, Harry Sparkle and Dick Driver, to record back-up vocals on "Stuttgart Turnabout”. Their album, Heard The Newz, will be released late April, as the band commences their Nl tour... Hoovers is the name of the new band featuring Lance Parkyn, ex-Bon Marche ... also new-three-piece Mr Clean, and Alister Parker’s latest venture Gordons. Radio Avon will release an album of local bands. Will it be called Steamshack’s Greatest Hits? Racey support was Steamshack ... Vauxhalls will record a privately financed 45. Luke Neary will tour with Comics as a sound man. The band make a good start with good weeks at the Hillsborough and the Gladstone. They return to the Gladstone April 23-26 after working in Nelson and the West Coast. A new venue opening is called Rip Shit or Bust (RSB) ... It looks like the Club-de-Grav is closed ... Pop Mechanix head north again in April ... Whizz Kids played Paparua Prison while here ... coming to town soon are Crocodiles (late April), Spelling Mistakes, Features and Th’Dudes ... will Head Office become ZM Band of the Month? Easter Monday, Hillsborough will feature as many as ten local bands in an all-day special. Any groups interested in appearing, phone Phil at 559-807. JW & MM DUNEDIN Tibet have split. Guitarist Ross Nicol, who has bought an ARP guitar synthesiser, and keyboards’ player Peter Ten Have are to play as a two piece. Ex-Cruze and Shuffle bassist Neil Henderson has formed a three piece called Axis with drummer Kevin Mahoney guitarist Jeff Dickie. Mike Richardson is mixing. Andy Coombe’s new band tentatively called the Boys has been delayed again because of the difficulty of finding a suitable bassist ... exShuffle Julian Finnerty to form a duo ... up and coming Le Contrebande played a week at the Terminal Hotel in Timaru.

"I Got You" and True Colours have both reached number one on the NZ sales charts. Enz are currently touring Oz sharing the bill with Sports. The 26 date Sporting True Colours Tour ends April 11 ... the second Street Talk album is near completion. Likely release date is May 1. The band took time off recording to support Fleetwood Mac and play the Gluepot. The gigs were a welcome break from recording and the band’s 35 minute Western Springs set was very successful ... original Sheerlux (and Stimulators) drummer Graeme Schnell is leaving the band after their April 19 Mainstreet gig. He wants a break from playing. His replacement is Chris Burt from Picture This ... yet another, ‘he’s leaving Th’Dudes rumour’. This month it’s guitarist/songwriter lan Morris ... the Crocodiles album Tears will be in your favourite record store by mid-April. Be warned, the band hits New Plymouth, April 24 &25 at Westown ... Ripper All-Stars 45 does not feature a Hello Sailor track it’s Graham Brazier (with Dudes Urlich and White) doing new GB tune, "One Bullbt in a Six-Piece Chamber”. B side is old Enz tune "The Instrumental” as performed by Mike Chunn Enzers Rayner and Green, Rob Gillies, Greg Clarke and David Bowater. Over Easter weekend the Windsor Castle Rock Quest will feature 17 bands including Ambitious Vegetables (from Wellington), Dum Dum Boys, Androidss, Rex Reason and the Rationalists, and Screaming Meemees ... Spelling Mistakes are now booked and promoted by, Sunset man Larry Young. The band celebrates their first birthday head-lining at Mainstreet April 24-26. The Mistakes head south during Uni holidays to play Last Resort May 15-18 and Hillsborough may 21-24. New band in town is the Respectables a band with two retired Dentists, bassist Mark Boyd and drummer William Griffiths plus Paul Sharman (lead guitar) and Paul Barnet (vocals and rhythm guitar). Is nothing sacred? They play "Venus” ... Ripper strikes again with a single from the Swingers “One Good Reason” and “It’s All Over Town” produced by Mike Chunn at Mascot. The 45 will be in a Judd-designed pic sleeve, will be distributed by CBS, and should be pressed in black vinyl, by late April. The distribution deal is not for all Ripper records, just the Swingers. An album will follow ... Liberty Stage is open Saturday afternoons to feature new bands and sell beer. Entrance is a buck ... since leaving home, Christchurch six-piece the Androidss have written lots of new songs. One’s titled "Auckland Tonight”. Maybe it’s about the night when they were thundering through David Bowie's "Speed Of Life” and Jonathon Jamrag chundered on the stage. Sobs are off the circuit until mid-April rehearsing new compositions. We are told drummer Gary Hunt may leave and head overseas late May ... Globe has a disco that plays new wave ... the new Picture This line-up is David Small vocals/sax Keith Moyle guitar, Graham Ward bass and Warwick Kaye drums. The band is off the road until mid April ... waiting in the wings are unnamed band with John Malloy keyboards, & tunes, ex-Rougho Rick Bryant vocals, Alastair Dougal bass, and Gary Langsford guitar ... Modes are about ... in Oz April 13 a Toy Love 4 track pic sleeve EP is released. The band is living in Windsor St, Sydney near a pub, the Windsor Castle. The gigs are going well ... Spelling Mistakes have changed their tune. It’s called "Rena’s Piss Flaps” ... Straggler is about too ... Wolfgang is Jan Preston, Neil Hannan (from Red Mole), Steve Osborne and Harry Lyon. Made a fine debut at Auckland Uni Orientation. They play Preston, Hannan and Lyon songs. At the same gig Snipes were also impressive ... is Graham Brazier recording in Oz as Zigfreid Lomax? ... new Toy Love and Street Talk singles are in the stores ... look out for an April debut starring Paul Robinson, Gary Havoc, an ex-Hookers bassist and the ex-Easy Street drummer.
