LECTURE BY FATHER COONEY

“A Trip through Palestine” was the title of. a .lecture delivered by the Rev. Father P. Cooney, on Wednesday evening week at the Oddfellows’ Hall, Lyttelton. There was a very large attendance and the audience was treated to an entertaining description of Palestine, its history, monuments and architectural beauties. The lecture which was • illustrated with numerous lantern slides was particularly, interesting because Father Cooney was able to refer with some authority to the present-day state of affairs in the Holy Land,which he visited not very long ago The Mayor of Lyttelton (Mr. W. T. Lester) presided; The lecture was given in aid of a fund for repairing and improving the-church property. V. ■
