Invercargill (From our own correspondent.) June 9. The Confraternity of the Sacred Heart was established here during, the recent mission given by the Redemptorist Fathers. The various guilds, with prefects appointed, occupy at their meetings, allotted portions of the church marked. oil' with shields affixed to the end of the seats. These shields, which present a pleasing appearance, have the respective saint's name artistically painted in gold lettering on a blue back-ground. The first Sunday of the month is the meeting "night, and on last Sunday there was a splendid attendance of members at the devotions. tf Rev. Father S. Marlow, who is spiritual director of the confraternity, preached an appropriate sermon, after which there was a procession of the Blessed Sacrament, the men of the confraternity participating. St. Joseph's girls' parish school building is practically completed, and the opening day will be fixed when the grounds are put in order. At the last meeting of the parish general committee plans' of the new Marist Brothers' School were submitted by the architect, and the building committee was requested to confer with him and report. The chairman of the collection committee reported that the town had been divided into sections, and collectors appointed. It could be estimated before the next meeting the amount available from what is. known as the "weekly collection." All arrangements are well in hand, and it is hoped to have the new school for boys under way within a few weeks. The usual monthly social will be held in the Victoria Hall, on Tuesday, 19ch inst., with a euchre tournament from 8 to 10 p.m. Previous entertainments of this kind have been most successful financially, and the committee trust that liberal patronage will be continued. Quite a. number of little onesboth girls and boys faced "Jack Frost" going to early Mass on Friday, the 18th inst. (Feast of the Sacred Heart) to make their First Holy Communion. 4~w : Timaru (From our own correspondent.) • June 8. After High Mass last Sunday there was, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, when the Sacred Heart Church was thronged with worshippers during the afternoon. The usual monthly procession in honor of the Blessed Sacrament took place in the church, when all the sodalities were well represented. Rev. Father J. More O'Ferrall preached on the Blessed Sacrament, after which Rev. Father Hurley enrolled twelve young ladies in the Children of Mary Sodality. The Friendly Societies commenced their , annual cribbage and euchre tournament last month. The Hibernians (holders. of the cup), ably led by their captain Mr. J. Collins), , have three wins already to their credit, and it is confidently expected 'that this team will again win the competition which is arousing : great interest amongst the members of the various lodges.
