MR. JOHN LOUIS HENRYS. MARTINBOROUGH. The many friends of Mr. J. E. Ilenrys will regret to learn of the death of his son, Mr. John Louis Ilenrys, which resulted from a motor accident last week (writes our Wellington correspondent under date September 14.) The deceased, who was well known in Wellington, was born at Palmerston North thirty-one years ago. He was educated at St. Patrick’s College, Wellington, at St. Joseph’s College, Hunter’s Hill, Sydney, and at the Lincoln Agricultural College, Canterbury. He was in the employ of the Colonial Sugar Company in Queensland and Fiji for two- years, and afterwards in the Northern. Territory of Australia, from where he went to England. For some years he was employed in the local office of the Union Steamship Company, and at the time of his death he was the resident agent at Martinborough for the Wairarapa Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Masterton. He saw service in South Africa as a member of the Natal Force, and volunteered at the outbreak of the present war, but was rejected on account of a broken leg received by him when playing for the Wellington Football Club. In South America, where he lived for two years,- he was a successful amateur cross-country and flat rider. He was also handicapper for the Avondale, Masterton, Rangitikei, Opunake, Marlborough, and Stratford Jockey Clubs. A large and representative gathering, including the Hon. W. D. S. MacDonald and deceased’s late employers, attended the funeral in Wellington. Many of the racing clubs throughout New Zealand sent wreaths and messages of sympathy. Father Smyth, S.M., Adm., Thorndon, celebrated Requiem Mass at the Sacred Heart Basilica and assisted by Father Gilbert, S.M., Rector of St. Patrick’s College, and Father Outtrim, S.M., conducted the obsequies. Requiem Mass was also celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, Masterton, by the Right Rev. Mgr. McKenna, V.G., who attended the deceased gentleman in his last moments. Deceased is survived by a widow and one child, who are at present on a visit to their relatives in Queensland. —R.I.P.
