OBITUARY

MR. DAVID SCANLAN, WELLINGTON. The death is recorded (writes our Wellington, correspondent.) of another of the old Catholic residents of Wellington, in the person of Mr. David Scanlan. The deceased settled in Wellington some 50 years ago, and was for many years engaged in farming on the hills overlooking the city ; and what is now known as Kelburn, with the University and fine suburban residences, was in years gone by termed Scanlan’s Hill. The deceased was a nephew of the late John Stack, a former M.P. for North-West Kerry, Ireland; and in his boyhood saw some of the stirring historic happenings of those times in the old land. He was a devout Catholic, and was for many years, up to the time of his last illness, a daily attendant at Mass, and died fortified by all the rites of Holy Church. The late Mr. Scanlan leaves a widow and a grown-up family of five sons and four daughters, among whom are Mr. W. B. Scanlan, of Island Bay; Mr. P. Scanlan, student at Greenmeadows Seminary; Mrs. Parkhouse, of Pahiatua ; and Mrs. L. T. Reichel, Island Bay, WeL lington.—R.l.P.
