Oamaru
(From our own correspondent.) . ' ' March 11. ; A eiy great interest centres round the forthcoming St. Patrick’s Night concert on March 18, and judging, by the unusual demand for tickets, a crowded audience is assured. The proceeds are to be devoted to the schools of the parism, but apart from that most worthy object, a very fine programme has been prepared for patrons. Ihe best talent has been secured, and a fine series of national pictures will fittingly terminate the entertainment. Among those who have kindly promised to assist are Miss Lottie Barker (Christchurch), Miss Dennehy and Mrs. Lynch (Timaru), Miss Hannah Sweeney and Miss Violet Fraser (Dunedin), Mr. Henry (Wellington), Mr. de Spong (Dunedin), and Messrs) T. G. Williams and G. Whale (Oamaru), The concert promises to eclipse anything hitherto attempted in Oamaru, and to Rev. Father Farthing, who has organised the performance, all credit is due. Ihe death of Mrs. Allan McPhce, which occurred on Monday morning, removed one who has made this district her place of residence for close on forty years; it was in .18/4 when Mrs. McPhee, with the late Allan Mcl hee, came to Oamaru. Mrs. Gallagher was a zealous Catholic and a number of the various ladies’ societies connected with this parish, and her early demise is much regretted by all who knew her. — R.I.P.'
