A general Communion of the members of the local branch of the Hibernian Society takes place on Sunday, ! March 24, at the 8 o’clock Mass at the Cathedral. '■ Signor Borzoni is very busily engaged in training the large body of young ladies and gentlemen for the spectacular display at the bazaar to be held in aid of the Cathedral funds in the Town Hall at Easter. Active preparations are being made in the various parishes to stock the stalls. The proposed tug-of-war competition is creating wide-spread interest.- The general committee is working most, zealously, and it is expected the bazaar will eclipse anything of a like nature yet held here. Mr. Allen Doone and company visited St. Mary’s Convent last Thursday afternoon, and gave an excellent performance in honor of the Rev. Mother’s feast " day. At the conclusion of the performance a nice address was read by one of the students to Mr. Doone, who replied in kindly terms, and expressed gratification hi being allowed to afford light genuine amusement to those who honored him by their presence that afternoon. . He would always look back with pleasure to his visit to Auckland. Preparations for the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day are being made on a large scale. The children’s massed display will be a special feature. Two thousand will take part in it, and after some pretty evolutions the whole will form a huge shamrock, followed by the .words <*. New Zealand.’ The meeting of the world’s champion sprinters, Donaldson and Postle, is arousing great interest. Given fine weather an immense gathering is assured. A capital programme has been arranged for the national concert in the evening. It is expected that the big building will be filled to its utmost capacity.
