St. Joseph’s Ladies’ Hockey Club, Dunedin

♦ '■ ■ The annual meeting of St. Joseph’s Ladies’ Hockey Club was held in St. Joseph’s Hall on Monday evening. There was a fair attendance, and the Rev. Father, Corcoran presided. The secretary (Miss Munro), in her annual report presented to, and adopted by, the meeting, said:—‘Your club is now entering on the fourth year of-its: existence, "and, looking back to the three playing seasons that have passed, I note with pardonable pride, the sure and steady improvements that have taken place. The standard of play has improved, the membership has yearly increased, and the finances are in a sound and flourishing condition. In fact, the season just past has, from every point of view, been thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial to all connected with the club. The three teams have each in their own way distinguished themselves. At the commencement, of the 1911 season the club’s finances' were in a very low state, which caused much anxiety to the committee. Thanks to the energy of the committee and the generous assistance of a number of friends, the club was able to hold its first concert, which was a distinct success from ah artistic and financial point of view. While the attendance at the championship matches was very good,.,there was still room for improvement. - The club'greatly appreciated the courtesy of the members of ■ St. Joseph’s Harrier Club in so

kindly assisting with the disposal of concert tickets. Features of the season’s amusements were the matches played against the Harrier Club’s team. Two very enjoyable outings were participated in by representative teams from the A and B grades. The A team, played a most successful match against the members of the Waikouaiti Club’s team. The members of the visiting team desire to place on record their high appreciation of the great courtesy and kindness they received from the Waikouaiti Hockey Club. At Milton, the B grade junior team tried, conclusions with the High School team, and, though not successful, nevertheless they spent a very pleasant day. To Mr. E. Wilkie the club extends its thanks for having acted in the capacity of referee in a number of local and visiting matches. The' results of the championship matches were as follow:—The A grade played 7 matches, won 3, lost 4, gained 6 points, and were accorded fourth place in their grade, in which there were eight competing teams. The first section of the B grade played 7 matches, in which they were successful in 1, lost 3, and played 3 drawn games, and gained 6 —their position being seventh among eight teams. The second section of the B grade played 6. games, of which 2 were won, 2 drawn, and 2 lost. The points gained amounted to 6, and this team also occupies fourth position among eight teams. The last-mentioned team has done remarkably well for juniors, especially as it is, with one exception, composed of entirely new members, who had received only-one evening’s instruction before taking part in. the championship matches. In conclusion, the secretary expresses her thanks for the assistance rendered during her term of office, and for the promptness with which the subscriptions were paid. The:election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Miss A. Heley; vice-presidents, Misses Brennan and M. Murray ; secretary, Miss Munro: committee, Misses Rodden, M. Murray, Harbour, N. Murray; delegates to the Association, Misses Munro and Murray.
