THE IRISH ENVOYS

; NEW ZEALAND’S CONTRIBUTIONS Mr. Martin Kennedy, K.S.G., Wellington, who did so much to make the tour of New Zealand by the Irish delegates a splendid success, has just received an official receipt for the second instalment of the New Zealand contribution, signed by Bishop O’Donnell, J. E. Redmond, and John Fitzgibbon, trustees of the Home Rule Fund. With it came the following letter from Mr. John Redmond himself:—‘Dear Mr. Kennedy,—l beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of July 28, enclosing credit note for £4500. This, with £4OOO already received from you by the envoys, makes a total of £BSOO received by us so far as the result of the New Zealand mission. I need not say that we, and the whole of Nationalist Ireland, are deeply grateful for this most magnificent and generous support. We are now entering on the last lap, and nothing short of some quite unforseen political earthquake can prevent the early triumph of Home Rule. When that date comes we all’ will gladly and proudly acknowledge how much Ireland owes to the Irishmen of New Zealand, and, foremost among them, to you. United by my colleagues in warmest thanks to you, I remain, very truly yours, - J. E. Redmond.’ ‘ August 29, 1911.’ The last instalment was cabled Home quite recently, making the sum total of the net contribution of the Dominion to the fund nearly £9BBO. Mr. R. Hazleton, in responding to an address of welcome in Melbourne, said that the results of the Irish envoys’ mission so far were 100 per cent, better than those of the previous missions. At a public meeting in the Town Hall, Melbourne, on Tuesday evening, October 10, when addresses were' delivered by the Irish envoys to an immense gathering, the subscriptions amounted to £IOOO.
