(From our owe correspondent.) April 2. Mr. J. McKenna, a popular ' old boy ' of the Catholic school, is at present here on a bhort holiday. He was for many years the leading bass singer in the choir, and last Sunday he once more occupied that position. The final meeting of the St. Patrick's Day celebration Committee was held in St. John's Hall on Sunday afternoon. The statement of accounts submitted by the secretary, Mr. N. Mangos, showed a credit balance of £12 from the concert and over £3' los Irom the picnic. Mr. P. J. Sullivan, who is widely known in Hibernian circles for his greati success in - obtaining" new members, was last week transferred to AshbUrton from the Timaru railway yard. The president of" the branch, Bro. M. Flanagan, at the Quarterly meeting held on Monday last, on behalf of the branch, * expressed his great regret at Bro. Sullivan's departure and best wishes for his success. A Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated last Thursday morning at B.£f) o'clock- for the rept)se of the souls of the late Dean Foley and Father Pertuis, both of whom were connected with this parish for many years Very Rev.. Dean Renault; of Waima-te, was the celebrant, and Rev. Fathers Bowden and Kerley deacon and subdeacori respectively. Miss E. McGuinness presided at the organ, and ,the Gregorian music was finely rendered by the convent choir. -

The parish suffered a loss recently in the departure of Mrs. J. &gan and family for Auckland, where they intend settling.. Mrs. Egan took a practical interest in all that concerned the church, -and her 'daughter-,. Miss N. Egan, was a leading member of the choir and; also assistant organist. They carry witbr them the best wishes of the- parish to their new home. .
