PALMERSTON NORTH

(From our own correspondent.)

November 17

The devotion of the Forty Hours 5 Adoration will begin in St. Patrick's Church on Sunday next, 2Gth inst. A quiet wedding was celebrated on the King's Birthday, Bth inst , the contracting parties being Mr. Fred Hanlon, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. ITanlon, of Terrace End, and Miss Annie Andeison, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Anderson, ot Terrace street. The ceremony was performed by the Rev P. W. Tymons. The happy couple left for their future home at Dannevirke by the midday train, and, being deservedly popular, were the recipients of many useful and valuable presents The bazaar in the Zealandia Hall was brought to a close on Monday last, after a run of twelve nights The two extra nights were decided upon to enable the management to give the takings of the door on the Saturday night as a benefit for Signor Bor/.oni, and on the Monday night for the local hospital, both occasions being well patronized. The amount realised for the hospital, together with a donation from Mr. J. J. Redwood of £1, came to over £18, which bears a Government subsidy. The local convent benefits to the amount of over £300, which, when taking into consideration the unusually heavy expenses and the tightness of the money market, may be considered very creditable. A social was tendered to the stallholders, their assistants, and to all those who took part in the dances, on Thursday last in the Zealandia Hall
