London, November 17.— The Continental wheat' markets are steady, there being a good demand, but the English market is dull and weakening owing to heavy shipments from Russia and good crop reports from Australia and the Argentine. Cargoes are neglected, and January shipment is offered ot from T-Ss to ;-< 3s dd, but buyers are not responding. New Zealand spot is scarce. Long-berried, 30s Gd to 31s Gd , short-berried, 30s to 31s. Flour.— The market is firm. Australian supplies are small, and prices are unchanged. Freights are quiet, and Yictoiian steamers have been chartered at 25s ( Jd. Butter is firm. Danish is unchanged. Choicest Australian, 110s to 112s, and a few lots Ills ; New Zealand, 112s to Ills There is a better demand for secondaries, 'which arc improving in quality.

Millers are strong buyers' ot all prune to choice samples, while medium qualities ate also in better demand Fowl wheat is still scaue, and had good inquiry, both locally and ior expoit, although muie favorable quotations in the latter direction are to be had at northern ports. We quote : Prime milling, 3s 4d to 3s (id, medium to good, 3s Id to 3s 3d, whole fowl wheat, 2s lid to os, broken and damaged do, 2s 9d to 2s lid pel bushel (sacks ct l ia). Potatoes —Supplies ha\e not been coming forward freely, and late values for nearly all soils are well maintained A few lots of choice Deiwents, and seed Up-to-dates have icalised up to £15 , prime Derwents are worth £11 5s to £11 15s, medium and other sorts, £13 to £11 per ton (sacks in) Chaff.— For Monday's sale we had several lines of very prime quality, some of it being exceptionally well cut. For the latter theie was keen competition up td £1 5s to £1 7s Gd Prime bright oaten sheaf realised £1 to £1 2s fid ; medium to good, £3 10s to £3 15s per ton (Lags extra). Straw.— Oaten straw i? quite out of the market, and has good inquiry. Any consignments coming for-

ward immediately will be sure of satisfactory sale at almost record prices. Wheaten continues to arrive spasmodically, and still rules at about 40s per ton (pressed). Messrs. Stronach, Morris, and Co. report :—: — Wheat. — The market continues firm, and all offering finds buyers at the following rates : Prime milling, 3s 4d to 3s (id ; medium to good, 3s Id to 3s 3d ; best whole lowl wheat, 2s lid to 3s ; broken and inferior, 2s 9d to 2s lOkl. Oats. — Prices have now reached a height that causes exporters to buy with caution, and the business passing is not large. Sales are, however, being made on the following basis : Pi line milling, :2s Id to 2s 2d ; good to best feed, 2s to 2s Id ; inferior to medium, Is lOd to Is lHd. Chaff.— The supply has been short and prices, in sympathy with the oat market, have advanced to — prime oaten sheaf, £1 to £4 5s ; medium to good, £3 10s to £3 15s. Potatoes.— Prices still keep advancing, and have now* touched £15 for extra prime lots of Derwents and up-to-dates. Medium sales are bringing £13 to £14, and the demand is good.

Messrs, Nimmo and Blair report as follows :—: — Oats.— A good demand continues for all lines. We quole : Pnme milling, 2s Id to 2s 2d ; good to best feed, 2s to 2s Id per bushel.
