May 2. His Lordship Dr. Lenihan ia at present upon a business visit to Wellington. Rev. Father McGarrie, of St Benedict's, ia shortly to deliver an address on the Irish question. The Rev. Father ia fully conversant with his subject, and has an intimate knowledge and acquaintance with the leaders at Home. On Wednesday evening a conversazione was held in St. Benedict's Hall by the Societies of the Guard of Honor and the Children of Mary. The entertainment proved a great success and the proceeds nre to be applied to the purchase of necessary articles for the cathedral. Eev. Father Crotty, who was en route to Auckland from the south, stayed over at Gisborne in order that the Rev. Father Mulvihill, might enjoy a short holiday. Father Mulvihill comes to town early next week, accompanied by Rev. Father Croke, who has been sojourning at Ginborne for a week. The Executive officers, in the name of the N.Z. District, of the H.A.0.8.5. have sent a congratulatory letter to the Very Rev. Dean O'Haran upon his complete vindication from a vile and malicious persecution. The Auckland Branch No. 81 has also sent a similar letter to Dean O'Haran. The Rev. Father Benedict, who has been conducting a very successful mission at the Church of the Assumption, Onehunga, during the past fortnight, brought it to a olose on Sunday evening. The Rev. Father gave an eloquent discourse on the everyday duties of those who had attended the mission. Immediately after the sermon the congregation, with lighted tapers in their hands, stood up to make a renewal of their baptismal vows. This was followed by the Benediotion of the Blessed Sacrament.
At the ordinary meeting of the Auokland branch of the H.A.C.B. Society last evening the President, Bro. Nerheny, welcomed the return of Bro. M. J. Sheahan, D.T., from the South, and Baid they had all reason to be gratified at his efforts in establishing branches of the Society at Denniston and Westport. Bro. Sheahan thanked the members for their kind welcome, and said the new branches — St. Columbkille's and St. Canioe's — would prove of value to the NZ. District, as the members were enthusiastic and the officers of the right stamp. Last Friday a very enjoyable evening was spent in St. Patrick's Hall, on the occasion of the members of St. Patrick's Old Boy's Clnb tendering n ooncert to their parents and the olergy of St. Patrick's parish. A large number of adults was present, including the Rev. Fathers Patterson, Buckley, Moore and Zainey. The president, Mr. J. H. Duffln, welcomed the visitors in a oordial manner. Songs and musical items were given by Fathers Patterson and Moore, Messrs. Skerret, Lonergan and Christmas, and by the members of the Club. An adjournment was then made to the other end of the hall where a plentiful repast had been supplied for the guests. After partaking of the refreshments several speeches were made including an address from the ohmplain, the Rev. Father Patterson, and complimentary cpeeohes from the Rev. Fathers Buckley, Moore and Zainey, and Messrs. Lonergan, Peroell, Duffin and Twohey. Mr. Geo. Rioe, on behalf of the members, thanked the speakers for the encouraging and highly complimentary remarks they had made regarding the Club. The singing of ' Auld Lang Syne ' by the members brought a most enjoyable evening to a close.
