DIOCESE OF DUNEDIN.

A very enjoyable game of football between the Catholic Literary Societies of Dunedin and South Dunedin took place on Saturday last. Great interest was taken in the match, which resulted in a draw, each side scoring six points.

An Invercargill correspondent informs us that Miss Carrie Sheehan, a pupil of St. Catherine's Dominican Convent, has passed the examination in the theory of music, held under the auspices of the Assocated Board of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Mubic. Miss Sheehan gained 77 marks, the maximum being U9.

Mr. J. F. M. Fraser delivered an interesting address on matters connected with the Tranßvaal before the members of the South Dunedin Catholic Institute at the weekly meeting on the sth inst. The Rev. Father Coffey presided, and a large number of members were present. Mr. Fraser spoke for over an hour on war

topics and other events that were taking place in South Africa, and gave numerous instances of the effects of the part played by the Mauser and magazine rifles, the pompom, naval -W guns, etc., during the present campaign. The lecture was listened to attentively, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Fraser.

The solemn ceremony of religious profession took place on Saturday, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin, in the Convent Chapel of the Sisters of Mercy, South Dunedin. The ceremony was performed by the Right Rev. Dr. Verdon, assisted by the Rev. Father Coffey. The young ladies who made their final vows on the occasion were Miss Thompson, Phoenix Park. Morpeth, New South Wales (in religion Sipter Mary Mi«« KrariW. Caver pham (in religion Sister Mary Ignatius), and Miss Coll, We^t Coast (in religion Sioter M&ry Anthony).
