LATE BURNSIDE STOCK REPORT.

Wednesday, 5 p.m

Fat Cattle— lo9 yarded, prices ruling about the same as last week. Best bullocks, L 7 los to L 8 15s ; medium, L 6 to L 7 10s ; best cows and heifers, L 5 to L 6 10s ; medium, L 4 to L 4 15s.

Sheep — 331 6 penned, prices being slightly easier. Best crossbred wethers, los 6d to 17s ; medium, 14s to 15s ; best ewes, 14s to 15s 3d ; medium, 13s to 13s 9d. Lambs — 1016 penned. Prices showed a decline of about 6d per head. Best lambs, 11s to Ils6d ; medium, 9s 6d to 10s 9d.

Pigs. — 40 forward, all meeting with a good demand. Slips, 15s to 18s ; stores, 20s to 25s ; porkers, 27s 6d to 345; light baconers 37s to 455.

The Right Rev. Dr. Doyle, Bishop of Grafton, prior to hia departure for Rome, on February 19, w&e presented with several addresses and a purse of one thousand sovereigns.

The Franciscan Fathers conducted a week's retreat for the Bushmen's Contingent in Sydney, prior to their departure for the Cape. It is understood there were 200 Catholics in camp including Lieutenants T. Mullins and Cope.

A farewell was tendered recently to the Rev. Father Hoyne, of Omeo. who has ministered there for many years, and has been transferred to the parish of Cowwarr. Mr. J. H. Burke, the chairman, presented Father Hoyne with a purse of sovereigns from his friends The Rev. Father Nolan, his successor, received a welcome from the gathering.

The Rev. J. P. Gleeson, who removed from Woodend to take charge of the parish of Healesville, was presented with a purse of sovereigns at a complimentary banquet held recently in St. Ambrose's Catholic schoolroom, Woodend The Rev. Father Nolan, of Cowwarr, who is leaving for Omeo, was also presented with a purse of sovereigns by his Walhall a parishioners.

The following clerical changes have been made in the Dioceae of Grafton : — The Rev. Father Corcoran app anted P.P. of the newly-formed parish of South Grafton and Cowper ; the Rev. Father Kiely (assistant at Xorth Grafton") appointed P.P. of Mnithtown ; the Rev. Father M'Cambridge (of Smithtown) appointed to Kempsey. vacated by the deauh of Father Buggy ; the Rev. Joseph Keating appointed Administrator at Lismore during the Bishop's absence ; the Rev Father O'Brien (of Casino) temporary assistant in Lismore until the arrival of Father Durney, who is on hia way from Europe.

The new church of St. Mary's Star of the Sea, West Melbourne, was solemnly blessed by his Eminence Cardinal Moran on Sunday, February IS. The total cost of tne church to d.ite is about £.50,000, of >*hich £21,000 has been piid. It is not yet finished, but what remains to be done consists principally of embellishments and finishing torn hes. The sacred edifice u as crowded at Hi^h Mass, upwards of 1400 persons being present. Herr de Chaneet's Grand Mass was the music selected for the occasion, and as it was the first time thijt it was performed, the composer was congratulated on his success. The Mass was given by a choir of 120 voices, assisted by an orchestra of 30 instrument ilists. His Eminence Cardinal Moran preached the occasional discourse, the subject being the ' Heritage of blessings in the Catholic Church.' The collection amounted to over £1200

Among the nurses selected in South Australia for service in the Transvaal were Miss Mary O'Shanahan and Miss A. M. Glennie, both of whom are Catholics, and were trained at the North Adelaide Private Hospital. As these two ladies were the only applicants trained at that institution their selection is a great credit to the hospital. Both ladies are very popular, and their selection has given great satisfaction to their many friends. ' Nurse Mary,' as she is generally known, has been charge nurse at North Adelaide for several years, and is especially fitted for the new and important, duties she is about to undertake.

Referring to the representative gathering presided over by his Eminence Cardinal Moran in Melbourne lately, the correspondent of the Sydney Freeman* Journal says that it included the following Catholic parliamentary men : — The Premier (Hon. Allan M'L«*an) the Speaker (Hon. F. C. Mason), Hon. N. Fitzgerald. M L. C, Hon.> J. G. Duffy (ex-Postmaster-Oeneral) the Hon. W. Madden, and the following members of the Assembly, Messrs. John Anderson, George Bennet, and H. Raw son. There are at least a dozen other Catholic members of the House, besides those enumerated.
