LIVE STOCK.

Addington Stock Market,

The entries at the Addington market comprised 5189 fat sheep, 2000 fat lambs, 1200 store sheep, 587 cattle, and 333 pigs.

Fat Cattle — The 225 head fat cattle were mostly lightweight heifers and cows, with only a few steers of medium to good quality. A few prime bullocks were withdrawn at L 9. Bidding was weak, and late rates were barely upheld. Good steers sold at from L 7 to L 8 10s ; lighter, L 5 to L 6 10s ; heifers, L 3 17s 6d to L 6 15s ; cows, LstoL7 2s 6d ; others, down to L 3 2a 6d. Mixed entries of store and dairy cattle met with a very weak market.

Fat Bheep — The quality of the fat sheep was exceedingly good, including more prime freezers than for some time, and some really good ewes. Buyers for export were operating freely for all suitable lines at from 15s to 17s 3d. Heavyweight wethers realised from 17s 6d to 20s, and butchers' ewes, in spite of a large yarding, well maintained late rates — viz., 12s to 14s 6d for good, and 10s to lls 6d for others.

Fat Lambs — Buyers competed strongly for export, and a rise of 6d per head in better sorts resulted, prices ruling from lls 6d to 13s 9d and down to 10s 9d for butchers' kinds.

Store Sheep — Thepe included a good many from the north, and these met but a poor market, owing to the continued dry weather causing a ncarcity of feed ; but good Canterbury sheep held their own. Two big lines of wethers were passed in at 11b 3i and lls 4d, and smaller lines at 12s 6d and 13s Id. A line of 2000 from Marlborough sold at lls 4d. Good young Canterbury ewes brought 14s ild and 15s 9d ; others of fair ages, 13s to 13s lid ; up

to full-mouthed, 10s to 10s 6d ; and aged and culls, 6s to 8s 9d. The bulk of the lambs were withdrawn, including a line of 1000 at 9s. Forward sorts brought 9s 2d to 10a 2d, and backward, 7s 2d to 8s 9d. Pigs — There was a rather improved demand for pigs of all olasses, especially fats. Baconers sold at 33s to 43s 6d, equal to Bjd to 3Jd per lb, and porkers 22s to 345, or 3d to 4d per lb ; stores, 13s 9d to 21b 6d ; suckers and weaners, 6s to 12s.
