In Danbury, Connecticut, the y ung men and the youDg women are in a state of war ngainst eich other. Four hundred young women organised the St Peter's Temperance Society, a Catholic movement, each member pledging herself not only to abstain from intoxicating liquois, but aiso not to '• ktep company " or marry any vount; man who dri"ka. The movement is creating groat f nthusiastn the membership ie goirg no by lenps ani hounds, and the Rev F*tber Lynch, priest of St Peter's, who heartily commend* the action of tho young womrn, conducts a temperance rally every Sunday ni<>ht. The youngr men, not to ba outdone, ht.ve bandtd together to show' their disapproval of the action of tbe young wonrn, and have boycotted all who have joined the society. At a B'rawberry pany given lately they refused to a<-k the girls to dance or to off-r them refreshments, tieveral engagements have been broken <ff, and it is said that the number of weddings this autumn will be considerably small, r than in years past.
