February 23, 1895. THE congregation of St Mary of the Angelß', Boulcott street, eDJoyed a musical treat on Sunday last when tbe choir was assisted by members of the Williamson- Musgrove Opera Company. Haydn's Imperial Mass was sung at 11 o'clock and the visitors, which included Mies Campion, boprnno ; Mr Beban, Unor ; atd Mr Bridge,
baes; took the solo parts, aiid at'tbe offertory Miss Campion gave a very effective rendering of Oomisky's " Salve Regina." Tbe accomplished vocalists weie again in attendance at Vespers and took tbe leading parts in Rossi's Grand Magnificat, and afterwaids gave the "O Saluiaris" as a trio, and the " Tantum Ergo," duet, tenor and baes, with admirable taste and feeling. In conclusion " Jesa Gaudia " was sung with delightful (fleet and the congregation must have felt edified with tbe musical ceremonies of tbe day. On tomorrow (Sunday) Gounod's " Messe Solennelle " will be given, with orcheslral accompaniment, at Bt Mary's Ca'hedral. The choir will be augmented by members of the Opera Company. During tbe last week Father Leniban, St Mary's Paraell, Auckland, Father Ginaty, Mount Magdala, Cbristchurcb, and Father Salvador, LyttletoD, were visitors to Wellington. A re -union of tbe members of the League of the Cross will take place at tt Patrick's Hall, on Thursday evening mxt. Tbe pro* gramme will include musical and elocutionary items. The president's prize for securing the most members will be presented. Under tbe auspices of the Wellington Brarch of the Irish National Federation a very successful and enjoyable meeting was held on Monday last. Speeches, readings, and recitations were contributed by Messrs Hoben, Healy (secretary), Driscoll, and others. Tbe proceeds of ihe next Hibernian social will be given towards the Irish evicted tenants' fund. Active preparations are already being made by an energetic committee for carrying out this project, and satisfactory results are anticipated. We trust a creditable sum will be raised on behalf of a people whose sufferings are neglected through the unfoitnnate dissensions of their leaders. The annual concert and social by St Mary's Cathedral choir, takes place ia the drill shed, on Tuesday evening next, when a varied and interesting programme will be contributed. Father Ainswcrth, assistant priest, Te Aro parish preached at St Mary's of the Is on Sunday evening last.
