ST. MARY'S LADIES' SCHOOL, HAMILTON, WAIKATO.
(Local paper.) Thb annual distribution of prizes and entertainment in connection with the above school, was held in the school-room, yesterday after-
noon. There wero a large numbar of parents and friends present. Previous to the distribution of prizes, the following entertainment was given, the various performers acquitting themselves most creditably: — Duet (two pianos and harmonium), " Cnilperic," Misses Bradley, Gabolinrc/, Cowan, and Ohiity, harmonium, Miss Murphy ; song, •' I am going to write to Papa," pupih of the junicr class ; so'o (two pianos), " Echoes from the Green Isle " Misses Ohitty and Can sen , recitation, " Dolly and Mamma," Miss Alice Martin ; duet (two piauos and harmonium), " Sig o*l March," Misses Gabolinscy, Hines, K. Murphy, and S. Hunt; harmonium, Miss Oowaa ; duet ( vocal), '•To tbe Woods," Misses Casseu and K. Murphy; sjlo (two pianos and harmoninm), " Sjldiet'd tteturn," Misses S. Hunt and M. Missen ; harmonium, Miss Murphy ; song, " Where shall we find our Home? " the pupils ; duet, " iieminiscenes of Ireland," Misses Murphy, Bradley, Chitty and M. Missen ; French song, " Puissant Maitre," the pupils ; solo (two pianos), " iVTes Souvenirs d'EoossV (No 4), Misses Murphy and Bradley; solo (vocil), " Carissima," Miss Parr ; duet (two pianos and h*jrm,,m,ium) ( " Hark 1 The Goat Bells Ringing," Misses M. Misfen, Martin, S. Hunt and Wilkinson ; harmonium, Miss Bradley; song, "The Wini and the Harp," the pupils; solo (two pianos), " Home Sweet Home," Misses Murphy and Oowai. Drama, 11 Ernscliff Hall." Dramatis Persocae : —Countess Moreland (lady of tbe hall), Miss Gibohnscy ; Misses Matildi Sinclair and Clara Hamilton (neices of Countess Moreland), Misses Bradley and Ohitty, respectively ; Sophia (her maid), Miss Cowan ; Annette (little housemaid), Miss K. Murphy ; Jane (parlourmaid), Miss M. Crnssby. Between the first and second acts the dialogue, " Children's Wishes," was given by Misses Cahill, A. Martin, Murphy, L. Casey and A. Casey ; and between the second and third acts the song, " Voices of the Night," was rendered by the pupils. The prizes were then presented by the Mayor. At the conclusion Mr Parr said it had given him great pleasure to accede to the request of tbe Mother Superior to present the prizes on this occasion. Ha had always taken a deep interest in education, and having baen present on a similar occasion 12 months ago, he was very pleased to note the progress that had been made by the scholars during that time. He hoped the Bchool would continue to be the success it deserved to ba. He rhanke I those preaeat, on behalf of the Lady Superior, for the interest thay had shown in the welfare of the school by their attendance. Those present then inspected the various articles, the work of the pupils, which were displayed on the walls of the school •room, very general approval being expressed at tbe excellence of the work. Tbe articles included paintings of various kinds, crayon sketches, crewel and other fancy work, as well as samples of various kinds, showing that the pupils devote attention to the useful as well ac to the ornamenta 1 . The whole male a brilliant display, reflec'ing the greatest crelit on the skill of the pupihas well as on the capabilities of their instructors.
