DUNEDIN CATHOLIC LITERARY SOCIETY.
This Society held its weekly meeting in the Christian Brothers schoolroom last Wednesday, the attendance being fair. Messrs B. Fergus 3on and L. Purton were elected members. A donation to the library waß received from his Lordship the Bißhop, a vote of thanks being accorded him on the motion of Mr P. C&rolin and J. Hally. Mr T, Drumm, after expressing regret at not being present on the evening the edacation question was discussed, made reference to the stand taken by Mr H. S. Fish in the late education debate in the House. A letter purporting to come from a number of angry females was read protesting against the decision arrived at in the late female franchise debate and dire were the threats against those opposed to it. A very amusiog story entitled " Rivals," the production of Mr J, J. Dunne, was read and excited rears of laughter. The remainder of the evening was taken up with telling stories. Ooe told by Mr Haughton caused much amusemeDt ; it was about two clubs in existence in Queenßtown seventeen years ago. The members of one club made a raid on the provisions of the other one night and made off with some gravy and what they took to be a leg of lamb, and ate with great exultation. It seemß, however, that the others bad got wind of the int-nded raid and had secretly killed a dog and got part of it dressed and cooked like a quarter of lamb, and it was this that the others had eafen. Mr Carolin, Mr McKeay and Father Lynch also told stories, after which the meeting broke up.
