ST. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL, LYTTELTON.

The annual distribution of prizes to the pupils attending this school took place on Wednesday evening, when a large number of the parents and friends of the children assembled to witness the proceedings. The chairman of tbe school, the Rev. Father Kickham, assisted by the Rev. Father O'Donnell, having during the previous days put tbe pupils through a rigid course of examination in accordance with the standards of the public schools, resolved to mark his appreciation of the most deserving by awarding them valuable prizes. After tbe rev. chairman, attended by Fathers O'Donnell and O'Connor, nad taken his seat, the children, accompanied by Miss O'Brien on the organ, sang the " March of the Men of Harlech " and "Sweet Chiming Bells" in fine style. Then followed solos by Masters Harron, Burns, and Harrington, and recitations by Esther Gilmore and Master Burns. The prizes were then distributed in accordance with the following list : — Division I. (Senior). — Christian Doctrine : Frank Minogue. Division I. (Junior).— Theresa Purcell.
