THE EVENING STAR CAUGHT.

In Monday's issue of this contemporary there is a long passage from one of Mr. Mundella's speeches, in which the Vice -President of the Council gives an account of the state of education in the canton of Lucerne. We print this passage elsewhere. The Vice-President's words are indeed well worth reprinting ; and we thank the Star for having placed them before the Utago public. But we should have thanked him still more warmly had he also informed the public that this splendid provision for education, and zeal that all without exception should be well educated, were to be found in an eminently Catholic State. Lucerne, it may be said, is wholly Catholic. In the entire canton there were only 4,000 nonCatholics, in 1870. Was our contemporary aware of this when he published Mr. Mundella's words ? We hardly think so. On the contrary we feel pretty certain that, had the editor of the Star recalled/ to mind at the time of his publishing what he deemed so deserving of publicity thut all this had' been, done by Catholics, the Dunedin public should have neveri seen these words in the Evening Star. Nevertheless we thank our contemporary, albeit he has unintentionally done one act of justice in his life to Catholics.
