Mile. Nevada, the American prima donna, has become a convert to the Catholic faith. She will shortly receive the Sacrament of Baptism at the English Passionist Church. Her real name is Miss Emma Wixon. She is the daughter of a Dr. Wixon and was born in a mining camp in Nevada County, Cal., where her father kept a small inn in 1857. Her voice was carefully cultivated and she made her fint appearance in London at the Haymarket as Amina in "La Somnambula "on May 18^1880. It was not until May 17, 1883, that she appeared in Paris, where ehe made something of a sensation as Zorain Felicien David's * Pearl of Brazil" at the opera Comique Mrs. Mackay will act as sponsor with M.
