His Lordship the Bishop of the Diocese left Dunedin on Monday last, in order to be present at the mission given at Arrow by the Rev. Father Hcnnebery. His Lordship purposed, if possible, to return to Dunedin on Saturday next. A Committee meeting of th« Dunedin Catholic Association was held on Monday evening last at the room*, Octagon. Messrs. J. J. Connor and W. Lennou were added to the Committee. Mr. P. P. Daniel handed in his resignation as Secretary to the Debating Society owing to business engagements preventing him from sparing the necessary time. His resignation "was accepted with general regret, ifr. J. Griff en was appointed his successor. It was decided to hold the opening debate of the Association on next Thursday, the Bth inst. The subject chosen was "Is the 19th Century Progressive?" As this subject gives wide scope for debating purposes we hope to see a full attendance and that members will b 2 well read on the subject. A special meeting of St. Joseph Branch, H.A.C.8.5., was held on last Monday evening — the President in the chair. The principal business of the evening was the consideration of the balance sheet iv connection with the late supper. The loss on the supper amounted to £I.~> 13s. fid., which sum was voted from the proceeds of the late fclo. His Excellency the Governor, accompanied by the Hon. Lady Robinson, and some other members of his family, and attended by his stiito, arrived in Dunedin on Saturday last. His Excellency received a most enthusiastic; reception. He leaves Dunedm for the North this morning.
