• Kaitaia. —13th ultimo, from a motor-car, the property of HENRY CLAYGATE HOOPER, Fairburn Road, a gentlemen’s silver key-wind hunting Rotherhams watch, Roman numerals, “ H. C. Hooper, 1908 ” on inside back case, silver link chain attached ; value, £2. Identifiable.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). — On or about the 21st September last, from a box on the ship “ Waipiata, the property of the UNION STEAM SHIP CO., 520 rounds of -303 calibre rifle ammunition, brass-cased cartridges marked on ends “ 1940 VII ” and an arrow between “ R ” and “ L,” nickel-plated sharp-pointed bullets; value, £8 15s. Identifiable. This ammunition is a new type which is issued only to the Armed Forces, and none of it should be in the possession of any civilian.

Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). 2lst ultimo, from the scow “ Jane Gifford,” the property of RODERICK MILL WARD, 27 Kingsland Avenue, a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold open-face 15-jewelled rectangular Buren wristlet watch, semi-luminous dial, “ R.M., 20/11/40” engraved on back, may have “C. 6889 ” scratched on inside of back case, crocodile-skin wrist-strap ; value, £8 15s. Identifiable.

Auckland. —19th November last, from a lavatory in the premises of George Court, Ltd., Karangahape Road, the property of JOYCE BOND, 24 Calliope Road, Devonport, an 18 ct. gold engagement ring with squared edges, set with two diamonds in square setting on each side of which are set longitudinally two square diamonds, engraving on each side of the latter diamonds, larger diamonds are set in minute gold leaves, slight mark on band of ring where it had been altered ; value, £2O. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 24th and 26th October last, from the dwelling of ETHEL MARJORY ANN MITCHELL, 53 St. Andrew’s Road, Epsom, an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, set with three matched diamonds in platinum claw setting, slight gold hoop at top and bottom of setting ; value, £4O. Identifiable.

Auckland. On the 12th October last, the dwelling of MARGARET ELIZABETH WHITE, 18 Ring Terrace, Herne Bay, was broken into and the following stolen: A gentlemen’s gold ring (recovered); a nickel torch; and a gold powder-compact; total value, £2 Is. 6d. Compact identifiable. On the 18th October last the recovered ring had been sold to a second-hand dealer for 6s. by a man who gave the name James Roberts (name probably fictitious), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., native of England, medium build ; wearing a dark suit and felt hat.

Auckland. — 30th November last, from a room in the Central Hotel, Victoria Street, the property of KATHLEEN COTTER, waitress, a ladies’ (probably 9 ct.) gold wristlet watch, about 1 in. by £ in., case No. 2637, white dial, gold numerals and hands, gold expanding bracelet; value, £5. Identifiable.

Auckland. — l6th or 17th October last, from a motortruck, the property of the NORTHAMPTON BOOT FACTORY, LTD., 6 Korari Street, a brown paper parcel addressed to “ W. H. White and Son., P.B.S.S. Newton ” or “ Karangahape Road,” containing the following shoes: Twelve pairs of ladies’ black Court shoes with black calf strap through loops in front, sizes 3 to 7, “ Du Barry— Tackless Tread ” on sole and on sock lining, “ 1329 ” on inside lining; nine pairs of ladies’ navy Court shoes with navy calf strap through loops in front, “ 1219 ” on inside lining, sizes 3 to 6, “ Du Barry—Tackless Tread ” on sole and on sock lining; and a pair of ladies’ white kid shoes, size 6, perforated vamps in front, strap around ankle, which has been repaired; total value, £26 4s. Auckland. 2oth or 21st October last, from a motor-car, the property of VICTOR McKANE, 33 Hepburn Street, Ponsonby, a gentlemen’s silver oblong Rolex wristlet watch, No. 4133 on inside case, leather wrist strap; a black Kodak folding camera, takes 120 film, “ Wells ” scratched on back and sides; and a black leather Brownie box camera, takes 120 film ; total value, £7. Identifiable. The above property was stolen from complainant’s motor-car, which was unlawfully removed from outside his residence and recovered on the 21st October in Mackelvia Street.

Auckland. — l6th or 17th October last, from a motor-ear, the property of ALEXANDER JOSEPH SHENTON, Strand Chambers, Takapuna, a canteen of fifty-three pieces of Christopher Johnson cutlery in mahogany case with bevelled top, 18 in. by 15 in. by 5 in.; a gentlemen’s cream-coloured light raincoat, Brae Mac brand, pocket torn at bottom ; and a bottle of Rawleigh’s cod liver oil extract; T total value, £lB 14s. 6d. Identifiable except oil. Complainant’s motorcar was unlawfully removed from Customs Street, and when it was recovered in Mitchelson Street, Ellerslie, on the 17th October last the above described property had been stolen.

Auckland. — During the night of 27th October last, from a room in the Abercorn Hotel, Queen Street, the property of EDWARD MARSHALL, care of Smith’s Mill, Te Teko, Bay of Plenty, a black leather wallet about 6 in. by 4 in., containing a motor-driver’s license in complainant’s name, No. 221, issued by the Whakatane County Council for the current year; a post office savings-bank book, No. 5498, in complainant’s name ; eight half-sovereigns ; a sovereign ; seven £1 notes; 14s. in silver; and a quantity of petrol coupons; total value, £l6 15s. Portion identifiable.

Auckland. — l6th or 17th November last, from a motorcar, the property of JEAN SMALL, 40 Ohinerau Street, Remuera, a black Ensign folding camera, takes 120 film, cable release broken off; a brown leather case to fit camera, short strap with buckle attached, leather coming apart in top corner; and a can containing a gallon of petrol; total value, £5 3s. lOd. Identifiable except can. Complainant’s motor-car was unlawfully removed from Lome Street, and when it was recovered on the 17th November last the property described had been stolen.

Auckland. 23rd November last, from the shop of TANFIELD, POTTER, AND CO., Queen Street, a Stuart’s crystal water set, tumblers have straight sides with criss-cross cutting on straight-line cutting; twelve tumblers for water sets, blue-flanged with two protruding circles at base; two E.P.N.S. two-gill teapots, marked “ Martin Hall and Co., Ltd., Sheffield, 3048 A.l”; a twenty-one piece teaset of Royal Stafford English bone china, grey background with blue and pink flowers and green line around edge, “ 7706 ” on cups in black; a twenty-one piece teaset, “ Wellington China C.H.C. and Co., England,” and head and shoulders of a man on underside of each piece, dark-green and lightgreen flowers and grey leaves, “ 7525 on cups in red a china basket of Grimwades ware with gipsy caravan scene; two earthenware jugs of Bailey Potteries, Ltd., Fenton, England, with various coloured bands around them; an E.P.N.S. jug and two balls of string; total value, £23 Is. 6d. Identifiable except string.

Auckland. —Between the 27th October and 10th November last, from a hut at 11 Nelson Street, the property of HUGH MORRISON GILMOUR, a bluish-grey Sincerity vest with dark thin pin stripes; a gentlemen’s nickel openface pocket watch, small dent in back case, Arabic numerals, repair Nos. C. 3644 and 1.X.51 scratched on inside back case; and a white metal curb watch-chain, about 12 in. long, threepenny piece attached ; total value, £1 17s. Identifiable.

Auckland. 9th November last, from the dwelling of ADA ANNIE DAVIE and another, 15 Cracroft Street, Parnell, a ladies’ black morocco leather purse ; a gentlemen’s chromium-plated oblong 15-jewelled Roamer wristlet watch, gold-coloured Arabic numerals, “ 25/12/39, To Les from Miri ” engraved on back of case ; a small leather purse ; and £8 6s. 3d. in money; total value, £l3 13s. Identifiable except money.

Auckland. —Between the 17th and 22nd November last, from a kit-bag in the Hobson Hotel, the property of RAWIRI IHAKA, a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold square wristlet watch, may be of Swiss make, Arabic numerals, “ D. Isaac ” engraved on back of case, black leather wrist strap ; value, £5. Identifiable.

Auckland. Between the 14th October and 15th November last, the property of SHARLAND AND CO., three Avo photographic exposure meters, 3 in. by 2 in. by 1 in., serial Nos. 20699/640, 20703/640, and 20704/640 respectively, each contained in black leather cover ; value, £l6 10s. Identifiable. The meters were stolen from either the warehouse of Sharland and Co. or from the shop of Boots Ltd.

Otahuhu. —26th November last, from the dwelling of THOMAS BRADY, East Tamaki, £6O in money. Not identifiable.

Hamilton. —30th November last, from a coat in the dining-room of the Claudelands Trotting Course, the property of WARWICK EDWARD HAMHAN SADLER, 24 Symonds

Street, Auckland, a gentlemen’s silver open-face pocket watch, white dial, Roman numerals; and a 9 ct. gold double watch-chain of curb links, about 16 in. long, gold and enamel medallion with “ A.T.C.” on front and “ W. E. D. Sadler” on back attached ; total value, £lO. Identifiable.

Hamilton. — 2nd ultimo, from the dwelling of ALBERT HARRY BARTLETT, a small canvas money-bag, branded “ N.Z.8.” over “ A ” in triangle ; a cheque for £3B ss. 6d., drawn on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, Salvation Army Divisional Account, payable to A. Bartlett, and signed “ Alfred J. Suter and A. E. Chandler ” ; a small cash-box ; and £lB 6s. 2d. in money ; total value, £56 14s. 2d. Identifiable except money.

Hamilton.— the night of the 2nd November last, the Post-office at Tauranga South, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Post and Telegraph Department) was broken into and £8 17s. in money stolen. Not identifiable. The office was entered through a window in the roof, and a dirty brown felt hat with “ Tamiti Pohipi ” written in pencil inside was found on the roof apparently left by the offender.

Wanganui. —l6th or 17th November last, from a windowledge at 26 Guyton Street, the property of MONA REBECCA MAN DAHL, a. ladies’ gold ring, set with three diamonds in crossover setting, “ Pasco ” stamped inside, value £3O ; and a ladies’ dress ring, set with a large green opal; total value, £33. Palmerston North. — the 24th and 27th ultimo, the shop of WRIGHT, STEPHENSON, AND CO., Rangitikei Street, was broken into and the following stolen: A five-valve broadcast Pacemaker portable battery radio set, brown leatherette case with leather handle, about 14 in. by 8 in. by 9 in., square dial with “ Pacemaker ” on it, No. 26604 on aluminium plate on, bottom of case; value, £l9 10s. Identifiable.

Palmerston North. —Bth ultimo, from clothing on the bank of the Manawatu River, the property of JOSEPH "HENRY. ALDERSLEY, 46 Main Street, a gentlemen’s chromium-plated round Swiss wristlet watch, white dial, luminous hands and Arabic numerals, fairly wide chromium band around dial, chromium-plated wrist band of oblong sections with clip fastener; and 3s. in silver; total value, £3 13s; • Watch identifiable.

Wellington. —l7th November last, from a motor-car in Durham Street, the property of SYDNEY WILLIAM PIERCE, a front seat and a back seat of a Morris 8 motorcar of medium green colour and of leather texture; and a spare wheel of a Morris 8 motor-car of artillery type and painted green, fitted with a Dunlop tire, size 5.25 x 16; total value, £l6 10s. Identifiable.

Wellington.— lst November last, from a room in the Grand Central Hotel, the property of MARY EILEEN PATRICIA KERRIGAN, Ulysses Road, Ashhurst, a silver fox fur necklet, about 36 in. long with bushy white-tipped tail about 18 in. long, fur on both sides, fur almost black with the exception of one small round patch; a black boxtype camera; a single string of cream-coloured imitation pearls; a pale cream-coloured silk nightgown, hand embroidered floral design in cream silk on front and back, sleeveless, O.S. size; a cream-coloured georgette front; a machine-knitted woollen pullover, black in front, mustardcoloured back, high fitting collar; a mauve woollen bedjacket ; and a pair of gun-metal stockings ; total value, £32. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., good build, fresh complexion; dressed in a navy-blue suit and dark-grey felt hat, who was seen taking the stolen property into the Trades Hall, Vivian Street. Identifiable.

Timaru. Between the Bth and 18th ultimo, the dwelling of WILLIAM BELL, 10 Wilson Street, was broken into and the following stolen: Two sets of scent and powder; a pair of black binoculars, marked “ 8 x 25,” made in France, right lens loose; and a nickel-plated two-cell torch of Hong Kong make; total value, £6..165./6d. Tungar battery-charger, one terminal-clip missing; a pair of small German binoculars (not prismatic), both sights adjustable; a black wooden base for a silver cup; a Roslyn rug of greenish colour; a patchwork tweed rug ; and a bottle of Grants Scotch whisky ; total value, £3B 17s. 6d. Radio and binoculars identifiable. The motor-car from which the property was stolen has not been recovered, and is described in Police Gazette, 1941, page 4.
