PROPERTY STOLEN.

Point Chevalier. —sth May last, from a vacant section in Tui Road, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Housing Construction Department), a red concrete mixer, worked by hand or power, small metal tag on frame with “Martin, Palmerston North” on it, iron wheel for turning has a cracked spoke; value, £B, Identifiable - AtAov'd. /3

Auckland. —On the 7th June last, the shop of ARTHUR EADY, LTD., 10 Vulcan Lane, was broken into and the following stolen: An American style trumpet about 30 in. long, “ Boosey-Hawkes Clippertone, N.V.A., London ” and “ 142510 ” on outer bell, pearl inset tops on each of three valves, two water keys, Rotary Quick Change adjuster on side to alter key from B flat to A., silver-plated with gold inner bell value, £3O. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to a Man (name unknown), age about twenty-six, height about 5 ft. 5 in., strong build, dark complexion; dressed in light-coloured trousers, dark coat, and felt hat. This man was seen running away from the shop window when it was broken about 11.25 p.m.

Auckland. 29th June last, from a bathroom in the Cumarvo Boardinghouse, the property of SYBIL CLARA ROGERS, 308 Ponsonby Road, a ladies’ 9 ct. gold 15-jewel keyless Swiss wristlet-watch, Dennison Cache case, slightly larger than a shilling, fancy work on front case, black Arabic numerals, repair No. D. 1572 scratched on inside back case, fitted with black ribbon band; value, £5. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to— Eric Lassen, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 512, and Photographs, page 60. (2) Stanley Lorimer Rae, referred to in Police Gazette, 1939, page 512, and Photographs, page 63. They occupied a room opposite the bathroom, and a person from their room entered the bathroom shortly after complainant left it. They have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Papakura. —Between the 25th and 27th June last, from the dwelling of RUSSELL BARNES ALLCOCK, Karaka, a chromium-plated cigarette-case, 4 in. by 3 in., enamel raised picture of Sydney Harbour Bridge and “ R.8.A.” on outside case, “ Sydney, 31st March to 26th April, 1939 ” on inside case; and £1 6s. 4d. in money: total value, £2 6s. 4d. Cigarette-case only identifiable.

Hamilton.— Between 19th April and 22nd May last, from a clothing room in the Defence Headquarters, Knox Street, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a -455 calibre Webley revolver, Mk. VI, No. N.Z. 718 ; value about £3 10s. Identifiable.

Wanganui. Between the 4th and 6th May last, from the dwelling of INA FREDA MORRISON, Moumahaki, Waverley, an 18 ct. gold engagement ring, closely set with five diamonds in platinum setting, “IX ” on inside ; and an 18 ct. gold ring, set with three sapphires and two diamonds in gold claw setting, one original sapphire and one diamond have been replaced : total value, £3O. Identifiable.

Wanganui. 23rd or 24th June last, from Foster’s Hotel, the property of ARTHUR WILHELM LARSEN, licensee, a gentlemen’s double-breasted heavy brownish-fawn tweed overcoat with herring-bone weave, three-quarter lined with brown sateen, fit man 6 ft. and of strong build, “ Robinson Bros., Auckland ” on tag; value, £6. Identifiable. On the 23rd June last the cash register 'was stolen from the office, but was subsequently recovered, and. it is believed that the stolen overcoat was used to conceal the cash register while it was removed from the hotel.

Palmerston North. Between the 22nd May last and the 23rd ultimo, from the dwelling of GEORGE EDWARD SCOTT, 22 Thompson Street, a crossed cheque for £2 on the Bank of New Zealand, No. E. 661684, payable to W. W. Scott and signed “ F. G. Major,” marked “ Not negotiable” and probably endorsed G. E. Scott; two postal notes for ss. each; and £35 Is. 3d. in money, £1 7s. 3d. of which was contained in a post-office money-box. Cheque identifiable.

Palmerston North. —24th June last, from a carriage on the New Plymouth Express train, the property of VERONA JONES, 877 Main Street, a black morocco leather purse, about 8 in. by 6 in., containing a small brown leather purse ; 15s. in money; sundry papers; and a ladies’ gold round wristlet-watch, about £- in. in diameter, front case chased, “ V.M.P., 25/12/29 ” on back case, fitted with black ribbon band with gold clip-fastener : total value, £7 ss. Identifiable except money. The Two Men described below may have committed the offence, as complainant discovered that the purse had been stolen shortly after they alighted from the train at Halcombe: (1) Age about twenty-one, height 5 ft. 10 in., strong build, pale complexion, fair hair, shifty eyes; wearing a fawny-grey light tweed overcoat (no hat), and was carrying a small suit-case. (2) Age about twentyone, short build, dark complexion, wavy dark hair; well dressed, and carrying a handbag.

Palmerston North. THE NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Public Works Department), store and magazines broken into (see Police Gazette, 1939, page 445): The following-described property was also stolen: A green selffilling Sheaffer fountain-pen, 9 ct. gold nib ; and a gentlemen’s oilskin riding coat, size 5, dome fasteners, “ Supplied by Para Rubber Co.” on it: total value, £4. Identifiable.

Lower Hutt. —lßth May last, from a hut at Trentham Military Camp, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), a -445 calibre sixchambered Webley revolver, No. 428, metal parts are of blue steel, grips are of black ebonite, arrow between “ N ” and “ Z ” on it; value, £4 12s. Identifiable.

Wellington. During the night of sth June last, from the Victoria College Building in the course of erection, the property of EDWARD HOGAN, 18 Nairn Street, and others, a large quantity of carpenters’ tools, some have “ E. Hogan ” and some have “ J. S. Simpson ” on them : total value, £l3. Identifiable. AZstOV&Hid/ /tf/Vv'-
