Circular No. 12/38.] Conveyance of Patients to MentaKHospitals by Train. ' In all cases in which mental patients are being conveyed to mental hospitals by the/police by train, arrangements should be made with the. Railways Department to provide a separate compartment 'of the “ bird-cage ” type for the accommodation of patient and escort. The railway authorities should bnalotified as early as possible - when a patient is to be conveyed by train, so as to enable them to make the necesgatfy arrangements. s' D. J. Memorandum.] Damage to Telegraph or Telephone Lines or Works by motor-
vehicles. In all cases in which damage is caused to telegraph or telephone lines or works by motor-vehicles and where there is evidence to sustain a prosecution under the Motor-vehicles Act, action must be taken under that Act. In future the police will not prosecute cases of this nature under the Post and Telegraph Act. The Post and Telegraph Department will notify the police of all cases of damage to their plant by motorists and the police will, in all cases so reported, inform the Post and Telegraph Department whether they intend to proceed with a prosecution under the Motorvehicles Act. In every case in which damage is caused as aforesaid the Post and Telegraph Department will take its own action for the recovery of the cost of effecting repairs. The memorandum of 27th April, 1932, appearing in Police Gazette, 1932, page 290, is hereby cancelled. D. J. Cummings, Commissioner of Police. Wellington, 28th September, 1938. (P. 32/513.)
