PROPERTY STOLEN.
Auckland. 6th July last, the property of FLORENCE ELIZABETH PARKER, Commercial Road, Helensville, a quantity of gentlemen’s clothing (recovered); a gentlemen’s silver open-face pocket watch; an 18 ct. gold watch-chain, open curb pattern; a brown leather wallet; a pair of spectacles in case; and a tie : total value, £22. Portion identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Arthur Thomas Wlorrlsosi Grove, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 368, and Photographs, 1932, page 32. He has a good personality, speaks well, and stays at good hotels. On the 4th July last he obtained an order from complainant authorizing him to collect from the Auckland Public Hospital the effects of her deceased husband. Two days later he obtained the effects and sold the recovered property to a second-hand dealer in the city. He also obtained £2 from complainant by means of a valueless cheque drawn on the Union Bank of Australia, Auckland, and inquiries have indicated that he knew his account at the bank was overdrawn when he issued Auckland. Between the 12th and 15th ultimo, from yards of the Penrose Railway-station, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Railways Department), a vertical drilling machine, 42 in. long, \ in. shank, made of f in. fiat iron, weight about 50 lb., two pulley-wheels on left side, one is 6 in. wide and J in. thick, and the other 2 in. by J in., semi-circular plate fitted to bottom of machine ; value, £25. ‘.. * i '*» '•* V • - -»■ Auckland. 23rd July last, the property of HENRY LAWRENCE SWANSON, Whakatane, forty-nine £1 notes; a shirt, size 5 ; six white handkerchiefs ; a white cotton singlet; and two pairs of grey woollen socks : total value, £49 16s. Not identifiable. Suspicion is attached to —(1) Edward McEntes, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, thin build, dark-brown hair; well dressed in a dark suit (no hat); and (2) Thomas Smythe, age thirty, height 5 ft. 10 in., seaman, good build, dark complexion; well dressed in a dark suit (no hat). They occupied the same room in the Windsor Hotel as complainant, and they all had drink in their room. About 7.30 p.m. complainant went to sleep, and when he. awakened about three hours later he discovered his money and other property had been stolen.
Auckland. —13th ultimo, from Ponsonby Road, the property of EDWARD CARTER, 19 Leighton Street, Grey Lynn, a 1931 model Morris Minor saloon motor-car, dark-navy-blue body, black mudguards, sunshine roof, wire wheels, winged mascot with one wing broken, engine No. U. 31572, chassis No. M. 30747, registration No. 23-625 ; value, £BS. Identifiable. /l#CQ l r' /t fcjfoy/3g Te Aroha.— During the night of the 28th ultimo, the office of the Tourist Department was broken into and the following, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT, stolen: About 15s. in money; a John Tann safe key, “ Noll, Newgate Street, London ”on it; a Vaun key, with “ No. 2 H.T.V.” on it; a Vaun key, with “No. 16349, H.T.V.” on it; and a library book entitled “ Outlaw Love ” stamped “Te Aroha Public Library ” : total value, £1 ss. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to a Maori, age about twenty-two, height 5 ft. 9 in., strong build, copper complexion; wearing dark tweed overcoat (no hat). He was seen loitering about the streets between 12.30 and 3 a.in. on the night of the offence.
Christchurch. 2otli ultimo, from Moorhouse Avenue, the property of THOMAS BASIL GILLARD, 52 Leiteh Street, Summerfield, a 1930 model A.J.S. motor-cycle, painted black with white panels on tank, pillion seat attached, engine No. R. 8/144011, registration No. 20-781; value, £55. Identifiable.
Christchurch. 27th ultimo, from St. Asaph Street, the property of ALBERT FRANCIS HAYNES, 55 Aorangi Road, Papanui, a 1933-34 model black 2/ h.p. B.S.A. motorcycle, over-head valves, chromium tank with green panel, Avon tire on front wheel, engine No. 23866, registration No. 20-301 ; value, £35. Identifiable. recovered, ikmg.
Timaru.— 26th ultimo, the property of LEO BROSNAHAN, farmer, Otipua, seven £1 notes; a gentlemen’s Shockproof wristlet-watch with luminous dial; a gentlemen’s brown suit with red stripes ; three white shirts ; five white semi-stiff collars, size 14J ; a gentlemen’s brown overcoat, purchased from McGruer Davis, Timaru ; and a gentlemen’s black suit: total value, £lB 9s. 6d. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Geoffrey or Jeffrey Corbett, age seventeen, height 6 ft., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fair complexion and hair; wearing black trousers, greenish tweed overcoat, brown pullover, and boots ; talkative. He was employed by complainant, but he disappeared on the 26th ultimo, after which it was-discovered that the property described above had been stolen. He is in possession of a red bicycle, and he may be identical with Jeffrey Corbett, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, >pag<Vblß. /&££ '/WWW' Bicycles.
