PROPERTY STOLEN.

Hamilton. —During the night of the sth December last the Oceanic Dining-rooms in Victoria Street were broken into and the following, the property of W. and A. CHOAT, stolen: £lls in cash, consisting of nine or ten £5 notes about £2O in silver, and the balance in £1 and 10s. notes. The safe was removed to the rear of the premises and opened by means of explosives. Suspicion is attached to Ernest Edwin Newton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 107, and Photographs, 1930, page 14, and John Leslie Florance, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 107, and Photographs, 1932, page 96, who are in custody on similar charges. They have been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Waipukurau. —Bth instant, from a room in the Leviathan Boardinghouse, the property of MATTHEW LeQUESNE, a gentlemen’s rolled-gold keyless hunting Omega pocket watch, black Roman numerals, stain on inside front case, knife-marks on back case near catch, repair-mark on inside back case; value, £5. Identifiable. ,

Palmerston North. — the 29th and 31st ultimo, the shop of NELSON WILLIAMSON, 215 Cuba Street, was broken into and the following stolen : About £lO in money ; a postal note, No. 056497, for 18s. 6d., with Id. stamp on it; a large quantity of tobacco, cigarettes, and cigarette papers of various brands; a well-worn leather' brief-bag about 14 in. long, containing a black haircutting comb, Tonsor brand ; a Frictionite razor hone, 4 in. by 1| in. by f in. in fine soft yellow leather case; a fine flat file, 7 in. long, \ in. wide ; a pair of No. 2 or No. 3 hand haircutting machines, made by Brown and Sharp (no spring); a fine grey carborundum stone about 8 in. by 1| in.; a Rombaugh razor hone, 4 in. by 2 in. by fin., instructions printed into one side of it; a carborundum stone, 2 in. by £ in.; a Swajty Alumin hone, 6 in. by 14 in., in cardboard box; two white honing stones about 4 in. by 1J in. ; and four packets of razor paste, made by Hamons, Paris : total value, about £39. Portion identifiable. —- Paekakariki. —Between the 6th June and 3rd December, 1937, from a shed at the Plimmerton Public School, the property of the WELLINGTON EDUCATION BOARD, two block planes; a tenon saw; a hand saw a joiner’s hammer; two in. chisels; two £ in. chisels; an oilstone in case ; a vise ; a small screwdriver ; a brace ; a | in. centre bit; a coping saw and blade ; a f in. centre bit; and a try square (all are branded “ W.E.8.”): total value, £2 15s. Bd. Identifiable.

Wellington. the 24th and 26th December last, the shop of CLARKE CLEANERS, LTD., 356 Lambton Quay, was broken into and the following stolen : A gentlemen’s nickel open-face Moeris pocket watch, case No. 1379794 ; value, £1 15s. Identifiable.

Wellington. —llth October last, from a room at 145 Aro Street, the property of CARL SERVIN LARSEN, a cashbox and sundry papers (recovered); a gold bangle about I in. in diameter, broken safety-chain attached; a cameo brooch with J in. gold band around it, representation of woman’s bust on it; a ladies’ gold neck-chain about 30 in. long, small links ; a gold Masonic jewel about size of a florin, square and compass on it; a pair of gold sleeve-links, dumbell-shaped at one end, heart-shaped at other end, square and compass on heart-shaped ends ; two small rough uncut opals ; two small rough uncut rubies; a ladies’ gold ring, feet with a diamond and two blue stones; a ladies’ gold crossover dress ring, set with six diamonds, one diamond missing ; a gold wedding ring ; a gentlemen’s 9 ct. gold ring, set with a blue opal which is slightly broken in one corner, band has been enlarged; a£s note; and three £1 notes : total value, £26 14s. Identification doubtful. Suspicion is attached to Man (name unknown), age about twenty-seven, height about 5 ft. 5 in., medium build, fair complexion, dark hair, long sharp features; dressed in a dark-blue suit with wide white stripes. On the 10th October last the suspect was invited to complainant’s room, and on the following day, during the absence of the latter, he is known to have returned to the room, and he may have stolen the property. He is thought to have a German name. The cash-box and papers were recovered from the basement of a building in the city.

Dunedin. —On the 7th or Bth November last, from a room in the Southern Hotel, the property of GOUGH, GOUGH, AND HAMER, 94 Crawford Street, an electrically driven motion- projector, Bell and Howell, Chicago make, gunmetal finish, extends 18 in., takes about fin. film, reel top and bottom for projecting, contained in black leatherette case about 12 in. square with three clasps and bone lock, “ Bell and Howell ” on top; value, £4O. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Gordon Alexander Dunlop, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 48, and Photographs, page 16. He was present when the machine was used to show a picture in a room at the Southern Hotel, and he was seen later with an article answering the description of the projector. He has been interviewed by the Christchurch police, but no evidence resulted.
