Auckland. —4th instant, on warrant for being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Symonds Street, Frank Warded, age twenty-two, height 6 ft., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes; dressed in a grey sports suit, grey sports shirt, and tan shoes. He was brought before the Court on the sth instant, and was remanded on bail to the 7th, but be failed to appear.

Hastings. —2Bth ultimo, for unlawfully using a motorcar (recovered), value, £250, the property of Mrs. Dorothy Hettie Proffitt, Selwyn George Harris, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 120, and Photographs, 1931, page 30. About noon on the 28th ultimo, the motor-car was unlawfully removed from Hastings Street, Napier, and next day it was found abandoned on the Wairoa-Waikaremoana Road. Selwyn George Harris disappeared from Napier about the time the motor-car was taken, and that evening a man of his description was seen near the abandoned car with a girl of about eighteen years, dark complexion, hair has a fringe ; wearing a lemon-coloured dress (no hat). The following articles were stolen from the car : A ladies’ light fawn three-quarter length swagger coat with pleat down back and crossover collar; a ladies’ knitted coat of fawn check with brown and yellow fleck; a ladies’ putty-coloured silklined full length summer coat; a pair of white kid gloves; a child’s white knitted jacket with four glass buttons, and a navy-blue leather shopping-bag with zipp fastener and white trimmings. He is identical with Harold Avery Clayton, alias McKibbon, referred to in Police Gazette, 1938, page 38, and Photographs, 1931, page 14. Accused obtained £7 7s. cash and an 18 in. fibre-cane suit-case, three pairs of socks, two ties, a handkerchief, a tie-pin, two sets of pyjamas, and' two shirts (shirts and pyjamas are marked “ Millar and Giorgi ”on tags): total value, £3 35., from William Maurice Millar of Millar and Giorgi, outfitters, by means of a valueless cheque on the Bank of New Zealand, Auckland, for £lO 10s., No. U. 257640, signed Jean Pollard. He was dressed in a blue serge suit and dark-grev overcoat. His license has been cancelled, and if he is located before the 14th June, 1939, his return to the nearest Borstal Institution is desired. He has numerous photographs of aeroplanes, talks a great deal about aeronautics, and represents himself to be an air pilot. Accused obtained a wedding cake from William John Thom, pastrycook, Courtenay Place, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 2s. on the Bank of New Zealand, Waihi, No. 634452, dated 1/12/37, payable to W. J. Thom, and signed L. or E. Scott. The cheque was from the cheque-book of the Hon. E. Dye, M.L.C., who resided at 50 Majoribanks Street in April last year, and a man named Grant also stayed at that address at the same time. No warrant,

Roxburgh. —lsth December last, on warrant for false pretences, James Bruce Will Miller, alias John Bruce Will Miller, age thirty-seven, height 5 ft. 9 in., salesman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair complexion, dark hair, grey eyes, long nose, scar on body, on nose, on forehead, and on chest; dressed in a grey suit, soft brown felt hat, and black shoes ; plausible manner. Accused obtained £6 from John Wilson Ovens, licensee, Grand Hotel, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch, signed J. B. Miller.
