Auckland. —Between the 7th and 13th December last, from a motor-car in a garage in Richardson Street, Mount Albert, the property of FREDERICK JOHN BRAITHWAITE, 4 Banleigh Road, Mount Albert, a Velie motor-car dashboard clock, American make, about 3 in. in diameter, Roman numerals, black dial, nickel milled edge which enables clock to be wound, value £2. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to William Henry Sherman, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, scar on left palm and thumb. He is in possession of an old model T. Ford motor-car, registration No. 160 v 161. (See Police Gazette, 1937, page 125.)

Hamilton. —During the night of 12th ultimo, the shop of JACK MARKHAM, pawnbroker, 68 Victoria Street, was broken into and the following stolen : A navy-blue serge coat and vest, size 4, may have “ Berwick ” on inside of collar; a pair of navy-blue serge trousers, size 4; a gentlemen’s gold-filled oblong hunting Elgin watch, movement No. 7773308, case No. 2921060 or 4999460 ; a gentlemen’s chromium oblong Novoris wristlet-watch, “ Swiss Make ” on movement, “ Novoris ” on dial, white metal wrist-band attached ; an Ensign folding camera, about 7 in. long and 31 in. wide, takes photographs about 3J in. by 2-j in.; four shirts, zip fasteners, flap collars ; a brown woollen scarf ; six handkerchiefs, coloured borders; two pairs of gentlemen’s suspenders; four gentlemen’s athletic singlets, cotton material, V-shaped necks; a ladies’ silver 15-jewel Rolex wristletwatch, movement No. 1149049, case No. 0925, silver expanding wrist-band attached; a gentlemen’s leather overcoat ; and a pair of Starlex Binoculars “1”8 X 26 on outside: total value, about £24. Portion identifiable. , Rotorua.— Between the Ist and 25th December last, from the farm of Charles Andrews, Clayton Road, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Defence Department), an aged brown gelding, 15 hands and 1 in., star on forehead, small white patch on off side of back, white near hind fetlock, white snip on upper lip, fire brand on off hindquarter (believed to be circle over bar O), “ 786 ” on near fore hoof, broad arrow on off fore hoof, ” R.N.Z.A.” on off hind hoof; value, £4O. Identifiable.

Manaia. —Between the 31st July last and Ist November, from the whare of JOHN ALEXANDER SCOTT, Glenn Road, a gentlemen’s silver three-quarter size old Waltham Mass hunting watch, small circle on front of case with Roman numerals on it, Roman numerals on dial, movement No. 2369719, repair No. 8493 scratched on inside of case, spring believed to be broken ; and a watch-chain about 15 in. long, small links: total value, £6. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Percy William Paterson, age twenty-five, height 5 ft. 6 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, black hair, brown eyes ; dressed in a navy-blue suit, black shoes, and grey felt hat ; legs have been broken; walks with a slight limp. He was a frequent visitor to complainant’s whare. He has been interviewed, but no evidence resulted.

Palmerston North. — Between May, 1936, and Bth January last, from the shop of WILLIAM TOWNSEND BALL, 497 Main Street, a silver cup with handle on each side, about 10 in. high, wooden bracket underneath, engraved, “ The Townsend Ball cup for best English setters, donated by English Setter Fanciers,” “ Hokowhitu Gloaming,” (date) “ Hokowhitu Lass ” (date) “ Hokowhitu Gloaming ” (date) ; value £2O. Identifiable. Suspicion is attached to Lee Sing, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 7£- in., greengrocer, native of China, slight build, olive complexion, black hair, brown eyes, dirty teeth. (Sec Police Gazette, 1936, page 305.) When interviewed, Geraldine Rowlings, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 628, and who lived with suspect next door to complainant, made a statement that she saw Sing steal the cup.

Palmerston North. —2sth ultimo, from the dwelling of ROBERT WILLIAM MITCHELL, Longburn-ltongotea Road, Awapuni, a navy-blue suit coat, Lynx make, size 3 ; a pair of brown trousers with whitish stripes; a pair of short interlock underpants; a pair of gentlemen’s tan shoes, size 8, crepe soles ; and a gentlemen’s brown felt hat, size 6f, snap brim, may have “ Collinson and Cunninghame ” on inside : total value, £8 7s. Identifiable except underpants. A navy-blue blazer and a pair of old white canvas shoes, which may have been discarded by the offender, were found at the side of complainant’s house.

Otaki. — the 29th or 30th November last, and on 4th February, from the whare of MERLE FRANCIS FOGDEN, Lupin Road, one £5 and seven £1 notes; a gentlemen’s darkbrown tweed double-breasted overcoat, Roslyn make, about size 5, belt has brown clasp, slightly torn inside of collar, may have oil-stains on left side of coat at front ; a nickelplated B-flat Hicham cornet, spare mouth-piece, front valve spring broken but has been stretched to required length, first valve slightly scraped ; a gentlemen’s silver hunting watch, “J. G. Clark, 1885 to 1935 and “M. F. Fogden ” on inside back, nickel-plated watch-chain attached ; a nickel-plated sovereign-case (may contain five-ccnt piece); and a nickel-plated cigarette-lighter : total value, £3O. Identifiable except money. Suspicion is attached to Howard De Grut, alias Roy Young, age about twenty, height 5 ft. 7 in., farm labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, dark-brown hair, bluish-green eyes ; dressed in a blue suit, black patent shoes (no hat); slightly round shoulders; active.
