Pahiatua.— On or about the 27th September, 1933, on warrant for false pretences, Hugh Robert Flack, alias Robert McPherson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1933, page 123, and Photographs, 1928, page 83. Accused obtained £1 from William Dixon Taylor, farmer, Mangatainoka, for four packets of powder, which he falsely represented to be Willow Powder. An analysis of the mixture revealed that it contained only sulphur and salt, and was worth about 3d. per packets• ,

Wellington. On or about the 15th September last, on warrant for false pretences, J. Page, age forty-seven, height 5 ft. 8-J in., advertising agent, native of England, good build, fair complexion, grey hair, blue eyes. Accused obtained 17s. 6d. from Arthur John Boyd Foote, carpet-maker, 57 Cuba Street, by falsely representing that he was having “Advertising Calendars published by a firm in Willis Street, and would allot a space for complainant’s advertisement. Wellington. —lsth ultimo, on warrants for false pretences — (1) Charles Archer Bryant, referred to in Police Gazette, 1933, page 452, and Photographs, page 52 : and (2) William Alexander Thomson, alias Thompson, referred to in Police Gazette, 1932, page 578, and Photographs, 1928, page 88. The latter accused obtained English current silver coins value £4O, from Cyril Ernest Torrington, grocer’s assistant, care of Hill Bros., by means of a valueless cheque for £45 10s., which he tendered to complainant in payment for the coins, He said he was acting on behalf of Walter Smart, pawnbroker, Wellington. Soon after leaving complainant he was seen in the company of the mentioned accused, who later was in possession of a large quantity of English silver coins.

Wellington. 6th instant, for escaping from Porirua Mental Hospital— Heta Frederick Gardner, age eighteen, height 5 ft. 4-1 in., labourer, copper complexion, black hair, brown eyes, scar on top of head, on back of left hand, two scars on right forearm ; a Maori (see Police Gazette, 1932, page 759) : and (2) George Blocksage, age about twenty-six, height 5 ft. 9 in., good build, dark complexion ; dressed in a brown suit (no hat). He is dressed in a blue suit with faint stripes, black shoes with fairly pointed toes, and fawn felt hat, and usually wears a gold wristlet-watch. Accused forged the signature of R. J. W. Byfield, of the Australasian Battery Supplies Co., to a cheque for £2 55., drawn on the Bank of New South Wales, Courtenay Place, Wellington, and uttered it to Ivan Luketina, restaurateur, 112 Tory Street. He is also suspected of having stolen a cheque-book on the bank mentioned above, containing blank cheques, Nos. 370371 to 370380, and he has expressed Ids intention to return'to .Australia. /o / ./

Wellington. 7th October last, on warrant for false pretences, Thomas Mervyn Stevens, referred to in Police Gazette, 1933, page 653, and Photographs, page 88. Accused, who stayed at the Provincial Hotel, Upper Hutt, from the 6th to 9th October last, obtained £6 ss. from the licensee, Harry Marshall, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount.

Taranaki Street (Wellington). —7th instant, that she may be interviewed regarding the maintenance of her children who are in the care of her brother-in-law, William Michael Glavin, Holloway Road, Mitchelltown, Nellie Glavin, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 4 in., domestic, native of Ireland, medium build, black hair, green eyes, straight nose, artificial teeth, with one upper tooth missing, and one tooth has some gold in it; suffers from tuberculosis. She sometimes takes her maiden name Sheehy.
