Auckland. — Archibald Andrew Scott, alias William Smith, alias Archie Smith, alias Russell, escaping from custody, &c.: It has been ascertained by the Tuakau police that he was employed by Ronald Crawford, farmer, Onewbero, and left there on the Ist instant, riding the mare stolen from Albert Parkes, vide Police Gazette, 1926, page 130. He is also in possession of a cheque-book on the Bank of New South Wales, Auckland, No. 206205-206220. (See Police Gazette, 1925, pages 267 and 328, and 1926, pages 128 and 130.) Accused obtained £7 10s. from Leonard Herbert O’Gara, grocer, 60 France Street, Newton, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount on the National Bank of New Zealand, Newton. Accused obtained 2,250 football-scoring cards for season 1927-28, value £lB 17s. 6d., from Mark Smethurst, printer, 3 Station Street, Newmarket, by falsely representing' that they were for the New Zealand Rugby Football League. No warrant. Matamata. —16th August, 1926, on warrant for theft of a Ford motor-car (recovered), value £29, the property of D. McL. Wallace and Co., garage proprietors, Thomas Stewart, age about thirty-five, height 6 ft., labourer, native of Scotland, strong ••build, fresh complexion, red hair; usually dressed in a grey suit and felt hat. Accused bought the car on the time-payment system, and whilst still owing about £29 sold it to John Patterson Benton, Putaruru, for £42. There is another charge pending.

Tokomaku Bay. —27th September last, that a summons for being drunk in charge of a motor-vehicle may be served upon him, Keith Jackson, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and lorry-driver, native of Tasmania, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, blue eyes, small mouth; well dressed in a grey or blue suit (usually does not wear a hat when working) ; erect gait; quarrelsome. Waitaka. —26th December last, on warrant for theft of a fountain-pen (recovered) and a watch, value £3 12s. 6d., the property of George Glendenning, Tim Yates, alias Thomas Yates, alias Williams, age fifty-two, height 5 ft. 8-|in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, scar on right thumb, on ringfinger, on left cheek, and on head ; blue scar over left eye ; ring on left ring-finger.
