PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland. —18th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for one month in default of paying £l4 3s. Bd. arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his three children in Auckland Receiving Home, William Edgar Basham, age thirty, height 5 ft. 6f in., carter and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes, scar on inside of right ankle. Arrears computed to 12th June, 1926. (See Police Gazette, 1926, page 763, 25.)^ j Auckland. 4th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Elizabeth Gillespie, 43 Summer Street, Ponsonby, Harry Gillespie, age thirty, height 5 ft., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, ruddy complexion, curly dark hair turning grey, hazel eyes, long nose, left arm amputated, tip of right forefinger missing, right middle finger stiff.

Auckland. — lsth January last, for theft of a gentlemen’s gold Swiss stop-watch and a 9 ct. gold single-curb watchchain, total value £lO, the property of Caleb Lewis, fishmerchant, Jack Stewart (name probably fictitious), age about twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, medium build, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, thin features ; dressed in a dark suit and light-grey felt hat. Property similar to the above has been recovered at a second-hand shop, but as the complainant is in England it cannot be definitely identified. It was sold to the dealer by a man of the description given. No warrant.

Auckland. lst instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of Florence McAnnally, in the care of the Education Department, John Fairley, alias William Wilson, alias John McKeown, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., groom and labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion and hair, brown eyes ; man kneeling and woman on left forearm, star on right forearm, scar on back of right hand and on left ring-finger and on nose. Auckland. 23rd ultimo, for attempted theft from the person of Christopher Titus Ricket, ironmonger, Te Awamutu, Man (name unknown), age about twenty-five, height about 5 ft. 6 in., slight build, dark complexion, hair, and eyes, thin face, clean-shaved ; dressed in a blue serge suit, grey felt hat, and slate-coloured overcoat. At the left-luggage office complainant, who was jostled by the -described man and two others, became aware of some interference with his hip pocket, after which he discovered that his purse, containing £1 10s., was stolen. He seized the accused, who dropped the purse and ran away. No warrant.

Auckland. 4th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his two children, George Mitchell, age thirty-three, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and hawker, native of New Zealand, slight build, dark complexion, frizzy black hair, brown eyes, large prominent teeth, clean-shaved ; dressed in a grey suit and soft black hat ; frequents hotels and billiard-rooms. Auckland. —17th ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Thomas Trevor Kerr, age twenty-three, height about 5 ft. 7 in., hotel porter, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, sandy hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a -grey suit or fawn Oxford “ bags ” and dark-grey tweed coat. Auckland. —On or about the Ist December last, for theft of a gentlemen’s raincoat (recovered), value £1 55., the property of Parnell O’Sullivan, Alf Stock well, age about fiftyeight, labourer, short strong build ; dressed in a navy-blue suit and felt hat; limps. The coat was taken from a. motortruck and sold to a second-hand dealer for Cs. by a man of the description given. No warrant.

Auckland.3oth November last,' on warrant for theft of £1 45., the property of Robertson Bros., merchants, Quay Street, Ernest Hodge, age thirty-two, height 5 ft. 64 in., traveller, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, black hair, brown eyes, right arm amputated ; scar on right side. Accused, who was employed by complainants as a traveller, collected £1 4s. from Alfred Devine on terms requiring him to account for the same to his employers, but fraudulently omitted so to do. Auckland. —11th instant, that he may be located and interviewed regarding two cheques for £7 10s. each on the National Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin (tendered to George Page, late licensee, Prince Albert Hotel, Onehunga, on the 21st and 27th July last, in payment for board, receiving on each occasion £5 change), which were returned from the bank as he had not sufficient funds to meet them, T. G. Valentine Blakey, age about forty-five, height 5 ft. 11 in., engineer and electrician, strong build, fair complexion and hair; wears horn-rimmed glasses ; well spoken. He was employed as a traveller for John Chambers and Sons, machinery agents, Auckland.

Auckland. —12th instant, that he may be compelled to maintain his child in the Salvation Army Orphanage, Clifton Road, Charles William Patterson Bell, age thirty, height 5 ft. Hi in., labourer, native of New Zealand, dark complexion, dark-brown hair, brown eyes, mole on right temple and on left cheek, scar on left groin. Inquiry by the Education Department. Hamilton. — l2th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Jessie Carter, Hood Street, Ernest Arthur Carter, age forty-eight, height 6 ft., carpenter, native of England, stout build, fresh complexion, grey hair, blue eyes, scar on left thumb, clean-shaved. He may endeavour to leave this Dominion. Arrears to the 25th ultimo, £5 2s. , ,

Cambridge.—7th instant, on warrant for false pretences, K. 0. Spring, alias Virnie Wilson, age about twenty-one, height about 5 ft. 3 in., grocer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a light-grey suit or grey Oxford “ bags ” and grey soft hat; appeared to be slightly mentally deficient. Napier.—9th instant, on warrant for failing to provide for the maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Samuel Mcßae, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of Ireland, medium build, fair complexion, grey hair, blue eyes. Complainant, Ellen La Broome. His photograph is filed in the Inspector’s Office, Napier.

Shannon.24th January last, that proceedings for a breach of the Arms Acts may be instituted against him, Leo Quin, age thirty, height 5 ft. 4 in., labourer, native of England, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair going bald, grey sunken eyes ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and grey felt hat; erect gait. If located, a communication is to be sent to the Inspector of Police, Palmerston North, in whose office a photograph of Quin is filed.

Wellington. — Henry John Mercer, alias Eric John Mercer, alias Riddiford, alias Le Bain, default of fines and costs : The Palmerston North police have two summonses for breaches of the Motor-vehicles Act and the Lights on Vehicles Act for service upon him. He is also wanted at Marton, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for three days on each in default of paying £5 10s. fines and costs for unlawfully wearing military uniform, &c. Wellington. — llth instant, on warrant of commitment to Wellington Prison for three months in default of paying £354 arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Eva May Connell, John Louis Connell, age forty-four (looks younger), height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, tree and anchor on one forearm ; prominent teeth ; lower lip drops when speaking. Mount Cook. —12th instant, that he may be compelled to pay £SOO 15s. 9d. arrears due for the maintenance of his children in Wellington Receiving Home, Victor James Burroughs, age forty, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of England, pale complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, large nose, round shoulders. He left for Australia in March, 1920, and may have assumed the name Burton. (See Police Gazette, 1926, page 601.)

Blenheim. —2nd instant, on warrant for false pretences, A. Dixon, ago about forty-six, height 5 ft. 8 in., stock-dealer, native of New Zealand, good build, dark complexion, dark hair turning grey, blue eyes ; dragged in a blue shabby suit and light-coloured felt hat. Accused obtained a pair of eyeglasses, value £2, and £3 in cash from Edward Owen McGuire, eye specialist, 112 Trafalgar Street, Nelson, by means of a valueless cheque for £5 on the Bank of New Zealand, Christchurch. Arrears to 10th January last, £34 18s. 9d.

Christchurch. —14th instant, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Ada Johnstone, 11 Harper Street, Sydenham, and seven children, Robert Bruce Johnstone, age thirtytwo, height 5 ft. 11 in., clerk, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark fresh complexion, dark hair, hazel eyes, scar near left elbow ; dressed in a grey lounge suit and bow tie. His photograph is filed in the Inspector’s Office, Christchurch.

Christchurch. —12th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Paparua Prison for three months in default of paying £9O arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Lionel Roderick McLean, age thirty-one, height 5 ft. 8 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, pale complexion, fair hair going bald, blue eyes, pug nose. Waitati.— instant, for escaping from Seacliff Mental Hospital, Charles Swan, age thirty-eight, height 5 ft. 5 in., slight build, fair complexion, dark sandy hair, clean-shaved ; dressed in a dark-grey suit and dark cap ; clothing marked “ M.C.” He was committed from Dunedin in 1909. <2. .<' Ar /y *

Dunedin. —William Albert Ritchie, missing and absconding from bail. Portion of human remains found on Tomahawk Beach, near Dunedin, are believed to be those of the missing person. (See Police Gazette, 1927, pages 7 and 95.)
