Queen Street Wharf (Auckland). — 17th ultimo, on warrant for being absent from the s.s. “ Ruapehu ” without leave, Albert Charles Brown, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, fair complexion and hair, blue eyes, sailor on right arm, small scar at right eye. Auckland. —l4th ultimo, for indecent assault, Man (name unknown), age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 6 in., medium build ; dressed in a dark suit and grey felt hat turned down, In Jervois Road, Herne Bay, accused indecently assaulted John George Rutherford, age six. No warrant.

Auckland.— ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Keri Toi Pere, 189 Victoria Street, Toi Pere, alias Wiremu Pere, alias Papi Rang!, age thirty-four, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer and bushman, Maori, strong build, copper complexion, dark-brown hair and eyes, scar on left thumb and on left breast. Auckland. —17th January, 1925, on warrant for making a false declaration for the purpose of procuring a marriage certificate, Charles Mozart Spinley, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 5 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion and hair, brown eyes, fair moustache; shabbily dressed; fond of drink. Accused, being married, went through a form of marriage with Annie Mary Phelan at Hamilton on the 17th January, 1925, and falsely stated to the Registrar that he was a bachelor. Auckland. — 15th instant, that he may be induced to maintain his wife, A. Boyle, 75 Latimer Street, Liverpool, England, Francis Boyle, alias Edward Tucker, age thirty-two, fireman, “ M.A.” on left arm. He left the s.s. “ Port Hacking ” at Auckland in October, 1925.

Auckland. —25th ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seven days in default of paying £2 ss. fine and costs for theft, Donald Joseph Macdonald, age twentyseven, height 5 ft. in., seaman, native of Scotland, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, Crucifix on right forearm, “ True Love ” and clasped hands on left forearm, star at base of left thumb. Paeroa. —Bth instant, on warrant of commitment to Thames Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 19s. costs for drunkenness, Hugh Lennane, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 111 in., miner and labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, scar on left ring-finger dressed in a navy-blue suit and black-felt hat. Waihi. —13th instant, on two warrants of commitment to Thames Prison for fourteen days and seven days in default of paying £3 2s. 6d. (£2 12s. 6d. and 10s.) fine and costs for two breaches of his prohibition order, Robert Anderson, alias Richard Anderson, age forty-nine, height 5 ft. Sin., quarryman, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark complexion, grey hair, brown eyes, round shoulders ; usually dressed in a grey tweed suit and light-felt hat; slouching gait; slovenly appearance) (See Police Gazette-1926, page 484.) , fern

Gisborne. 6th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his illegitimate child, of whom Elizabeth Coppin is the mother, Norman Copland, alias Norman William Copeland-Sutherland, age about thirty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., motor-driver, native of New Zealand, thin build, sallow complexion, dark hair, large nose, artificial teeth, prominent chin with hollow in it; wears tan shoes ; talkative, and fond of drink, dancing, and cricket.

Wairoa. —18th September last, on warrant for false pretences, Charles Henry Lord, alias Harold Lloyd, age thirty-six, height 5 ft. 4 in., insurance agent and canvasser, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, auburn hair, hazel eyes, scar on left thumb and little finger ; dressed in a dark suit and light-felt hat. Accused obtained £1 Bs. cash from William Drysdale, hotelkeeper, Marumaru, by means of a valueless cheque for £2 which he tendered in payment of 12s. for a night’s lodging for himself and a friend. Wairoa. —Bth instant, on warrant for theft of £315, the property of Robert Joshua Burns, cook, Tuai, Waikaremoana, Charles straight, age about forty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., miner and labourer, thin build, fair complexion, dark hair, stooped shoulders ; dressed in gabardine trousers, dark coat and vest, and grey felt hat; speaks quickly; walks as if suffering from ailment in his back. Accused, who in partnership with complainant conducted a cookhouse at Tuai (Waikaremoana Hydro Electric Works), went to Wairoa to deposit in the bank, on behalf of his partner and himself, £315, with which he disappeared. He may be identical with man of same name referred to iiyPolice Gazette 1913, page 563 -

Hastings. —lsth instant, on two warrants for failing to comply with the terms of maintenance orders for the support of his wife and two children, Edmund Samuel Smith, age •twenty-four, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, dark hair, blue eyes, left thumb missing. Wanganui. the 27th September last and the 7th instant, on warrant for theft of £1 17s. Id., the property of Tom Hodson, baker, Barrack Street, Aramoho, E. W. Roberts, alias William Roberts, age about twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., baker and driver, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair complexion, auburn hair, blue eyes, freckled arms ; dressed in a grey suit and light-grey hat or cap. • He may be accompanied by his wife, age about twenty height 5 ft., slight build, brown hair, pug nose. Accused, who was employed by Tom Hodson to deliver bread, received £1 17s. Id. from Eva Frances Maunder, 116 Campbell Street, on terms requiring him to pay it to his employer, but fraudulently omitted so to do. There are several similar charges pending. He may be identical with E. W. Roberts, referred to in Police Gazette, 1925, page 682.

Wanganui. —l4th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his child, Leo Vernor Pahl, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 7 in., surfaceman, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes. Palmerston North. —22nd ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for two months and one month in default of paying £ll 2s. arrears due on maintenance orders for the support of his wife and child, George Annabell, age forty-eight, height 5 ft. 8 in., carpenter, native of New Zealand, stout build, fair complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes, fair moustache, scar on left side of nose, one ankle stiff, walks with a limp ; usually dressed in a grey suit felt hat. Wellington. —29th ultimo, on two warrants of commitment to Wellington Prison for one month on each in default of paying £6 (£3 on each) arrears due on maintenance orders for the support of his two brothers, in the care of the Education Department, Frederick Berg, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 5 in., butcher and cook, native of Australia, medium build, dark complexion, black hair, grey eyes; walks as if suffering from sore feet. He left this Dominion as a trimmer on the s.s. “ Don Pedro II ” on the 30th ultimo. Arrears computed to 9th July last.

Wellington. —l3th instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probationary license, John Graham, alias John Graham Oxley, alias Williams, age fortysix, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of England, dark complexion, black hair turning grey, blue eyes, dragon and woman’s head on right arm, coat-of-arms and “Advance Australia ”on left forearm. His license has been cancelled and his return to the nearest prison is desired. His period of probation expires on 12th February, 1927. Wellington. On or about the 22nd September last, for theft of a gramophone (recovered), value £ll 175., the property of the Electric Products and Gramophones (Limited), 63 Courtenay Place, Victor E. Maxwell, age about twentyfour, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and journalist, medium build, fresh complexion, fair hair, round shoulders; dressed in a dark-grey suit and felt hat. Accused obtained the gramophone on a hire-purchase agreement, paying off £2 10s., after which he sold the instrument to a second-hand dealer for £1 10s. He left Wellington for Sydney (Australia) about the 23rd September last. No warrant.

Christchurch. — E. J. Baldock, false pretences : It has been ascertained by the Wellington police that offender left Wellington for Sydney as a passenger on the s.s. “ Maunganui ” on the 10th instant under the name of Walter Wallis. (See Police Gazette, 1926, page 732.)
