Wellington. the 28th ultimo, between Carterton and Wellington Post-office, a mail-bag, the property of the NEW ZEALAND GOVERNMENT (Postal Department), was stolen. The bag contained packages, letters, &c., among which were the following : A letter from George Blake, High Street, Carterton, to Mrs. Faulkener,' Wellington, containing a pawn ticket, No. 1873, for a ring, set with five diamonds, pledged at Smart’s pawnshop on Bth November, 1923; a package containing a gentlemen’s rolled-gold hunting Waltham watch, Nos. 18G377, 13352649, 20/12 or 2012 W, glass and second-hand missing; a package containing a gold fetter-and-three-ovals watch-chain, similar to illustration No. 22 in Police Gazette, 1911, page 2 ; a package containing a gentlemen’s 15 ct. gold signet ring, set with a bloodstone ; a package containing a pointed greenstone pendant, about 2 in. long a package containing a goldmounted cigarette-holder case, with “ G. 8.” on it: total value, £l7 5s. — forwarded by George Blake, High Street,
Carterton : and a parcel from Hansen, jeweller, Carterton, containing a black imitation-leather case, 8 in. by 4 in., lined with white material, in which were a child’s silver knife, fork, and spoon ; value, £1 18s. 6d. Identifiable. Special efforts are to be made to trace the offender. f w Mischief. Greymotjth. About 9.30 p.m. on the 15th ultimo, with intent to obstruct the working of the Dobson Coal-mine at Brunnerton, the property of the Grey Valley Collieries Company, the Buckley drive at the mine was damaged by • an explosion of gelignite. Any information Regarding the offence is to be communicated to the Inspector of Police, Greymouth.
