PERSONS WANTED.

Auckland.— lst March last, for indecent assault, Man (name unknown), age forty, height about 5 ft. 9 in., medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, greyish-brown moustache; dressed in a navy-blue suit. Accused committed the offence on Mollie Caroline Healy (age thirteen), 21 Pitt Street, whilst she was riding in his trap from Reimer’s Avenue, Kingsland, to Khyber Pass Road. He was driving a brown pony, about 14 hands, in a two-seater trap. No warrant.

Auckland.— sth January last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for fourteen days in default of paying £6 15s. 6d., costs for attempted suicide, Frank Moore, alias Frederick Moore, age twenty - four, height 5 ft. 8 in., fireman, native of England, medium build, pale complexion, brown hair, grey eyes, bunch of flowers on left forearm. He is said to be a member of the crew of the s.s. “ Suffolk,” which has sailed for America. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 55.)

Auckland. 2sth ultimo, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Violet McCormick, nee McCollum, Whangarei, is the mother, Ernest Findlay, age about twenty-six, height sft. Bin., carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, fair hair and complexion, clean-shaved. Arrears to 18th April last, £4O Bs. 6d.

Auckland. —31st March last, that he may be compelled to pay £52 12s. lOd. arrears due for the maintenance of Alexander Charles Davies, an inmate of Auckland Mental Hospital, James Alfred Davies, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 5 in., carter, native of New Zealand, medium build, ruddy complexion, grey hair, slightly lame ; walks with a stick; frequents hotels. Arrears computed to 81st March last.

Auckland. —9th instant, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probation, Alexander John Waldon, age nineteen, height 5 ft. 2 in., seaman, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, grey eyes. He was sentenced at Dargaville on the 22nd March last to one year’s probation for theft. By consent of the Probation Officer he joined the s.s. “ Waitomo,” but deserted at Newcastle (Australia). If he should return to this Dominion his arrest is desired.

Huntly.— 3rd February, 1919, for failing to comply with the conditions of his release upon probationary license, Lincoln Evan Turner, alias Frank McGuinness, alias Harry Scott, age thirty - six, height 5 ft. 10 in., labourer, native of Australia, medium build, sallow complexion, fair hair, hazel eyes, eight-pointed star and Ivy Nelder” on left forearm, two scars on left forefinger and one on left thumb; usually dressed in a blue suit and dark soft-felt hat; slouching gait. He has failed to report to the Probation Officer. His license has been cancelled, and his arrest is desired. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 319.)

Gisborne. —3rd instant, on warrant for breaking and entering the whare of Victor Knight, farmer, Manutuke, with intent to commit a crime, Laurence William Abnor Sherwood, age twenty-nine, height 5 ft. 9J in., farmer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes ; dressed in a browntweed dirty suit and heavy waterproof boots (no vest or hat). Two police officers were concealed in the whare when accused opened the window and pulled down the blind. He then escaped into the bush. (See Police Gazette, 1919, page 414.)

Napier. —l2th ultimo, on warrant for failing to maintain his wife, Monica Fox, Empire Hotel, William Joseph Fox, age twenty-seven, height 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, slight build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, faint scar between eyebrows, portion of left forefinger missing, two boil-scars on back of neck, round shoulders, slightly lame on right leg ; usually dressed in a brown suit, light-felt hat, and light-green rainproof coat; fond of drink. His photograph is filed in the Inspector’s Office, Napier.

Hastings. — 2Bth ultimo, on warrant for theft of two rugs (recovered), value £4, the property of William Gebbie, stablekeeper, Clifton Leslie Arthur Payne, alias J. Collins, alias Willis, age eighteen, height about 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair, grey eyes; dressed in a brown suit and cap, and may be wearing glasses. Accused stole the rugs from a motor-car in complainant’s stable, and sold them to Thomas Smith, second-hand dealer, for 13s. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 190.)

Marton. — Harold Whittle, theft : It has now been ascertained by the Newton police that accused was taken back to Weraroa Industrial School in December last. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 3.)

Wanganui. —l9th ultimo, on warrant for breaking and entering the dwelling of John Wainhouse, police constable, Gonville, with intent to commit a crime, Upton, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. lin., slight build, sallow complexion, fair hair, long nose, scar on left cheek near nose, sharp pinched features, slightly stooped shoulders; well dressed in grey trousers, fawn raincoat, light-felt hat with black band, and tan boots with Phillips’s soles ; jockey appearance. He is supposed to be identical with Thomas Augustus Upton, referred to in Police Gazette, 1920, page 312. (See Police Gazette , 1920, page 347.)

Wanganui. — l2th April last, on two warrants of commitment to Wanganui Prison for (1) seven days in default of paying £3 3s. fine and costs for obscene language, and (2) twenty-four hours in default of paying Bs. fine and costs for drunkenness, Charles George Woodley, alias Small, age fifty-six, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer and horsetrainer, native of Australia, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes; dressed in a grey dirty suit and cap. Palmerston North. —22nd April last, on warrant of commitment to Napier Prison for six months in default of paying £217 arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his two sons, George and Hilton McKegney, Arthur McKegney, age thirty-nine, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark complexion, brown hair and eyes, scar on inside of left hand and at base of left thumb ; talkative ; fond of drink ; smart appearance. Arrears computed to 12th September last. (See Police Gazette, 1919, page 690.)

Palmerston North. —22nd ultimo, on warrant fo r false pretences, A. E. Miller, age about thirty-two, height about 5 ft. 7 in., medium build, pale complexion, dark-brown hair; dressed in a dark suit and felt hat; talks a good deal about chemistry. Accused tendered to John Alexander Anderson, hotelkeeper, in payment for board, a valueless cheque for £5 on the Bank of New Zealand, Wellington, receiving £4 10s. in change. He falsely stated that he was the representative of Kempthorne, Prosser, and Go., Wellington.

Carterton. —Ist ultimo, that a summons for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his son, an ex-inmate of Weraroa Industrial School, may be served upon him, Robert Alexander Hogg, age forty-three, height 5 ft. 7|in., labourer, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, brown hair turning grey, scars over right eye, on centre of forehead, on left thumb, and on left forefinger ; deaf. Wellington. April last, on warrant for false pretences, P. J. Darcy, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 11 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, strong build, dark hair and complexion; dressed in a dark suit with fancy cuffs and pockets. Accused obtained £1 10s. from George Murray McKenzie, taxi-proprietor, by means of a valueless cheque for that amount.

Wellington. — 7th instant, on warrant for failing to comply with the terms of a maintenance order for the support of his wife, Theresa Uren, 9 Little Hawkstone Street, Henry Ellis Uren, age twenty-eight, height about 5 ft. 7 in., bootmaker, native of Australia, medium build, ruddy complexion, dark-brown hair, blue eyes, slight red mark on chin ; usually dressed in a grey or brown suit. Arrears to the 15th March last, £lO 15s.

Wellington. —lst ultimo, on warrant of commitment to Lyttelton Prison in default of finding security to compel his obedience to a maintenance order for the support of his

daughter, Olive Sarah Eodda, Stephen James Rodda, age forty-one, height 5 ft. 3 in., blacksmith, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, horseshoe on left forearm. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 283 )

Wellington. Allen, age about forty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., strong build, fresh complexion, lame ; dressed in khaki uniform, the overcoat of which is an officer’s. Accused obtained £1 from Mr. Low, Te Aro Hotel, by falsely representing that he was collecting on behalf of the Y.M.G.A. He is supposed to be identical with George William Allen, alias “ Captain Nella,” referred to in Police Gazette, 1919, page 254.

Wellington. —27th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a suit-case (recovered) and other articles, value £7 13s. 6d., the property of Alfred Robert Thornton, D. Moloney, alias Murray (name probably fictitious), age about forty, height 5 ft. 7 in., supposed seaman, dark complexion and moustache, wrinkled face ; wearing soft-felt hat, blue jersey, and muffler. The suit-case was recovered in Walter Smart’s pawnshop, and a pair of trousers in Mrs. Levy’s second-hand shop. (See Police Gazette, 1920, page 362.)

Wellington. — l2th instant, that he may be interviewed regarding the maintenance of his four grandchildren, inmates of Wellington Receiving Home, Joseph Reid, age about forty-eight, height about 5 ft. 8 in., rabbiter, slight build, pale complexion, grey hair and moustache.

Wellington. —l2th ultimo, that a summons for a breach of the City By-laws may be served upon him, Lindsay Barton, age twenty, height 5 ft.- 8 in., hawker and circusattendant, native of New Zealand, slight build, fair hair and complexion.

Mexted, age thirty, height 5 ft. 8 in., good build, fair hair and complexion; dressed in a dark-grey suit, light-grey-felt hat, and tan boots. No warrant. He is probably identical with H. G. Mexted, referred to in following paragraph.

Wellington. —6th April last, on warrant for theft of a gentlemen’s mackintosh (recovered), value £3 10s., the property of William Rohner, storekeeper, Trentham, H. G. Mexted, age thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., medium build, dark hair and complexion ; dressed in a blue suit. Accused stole the coat from a motor-car in Allen Street, and sold it at M. Brickman’s second-hand shop in Courtenay Place. He is probably identical with G. Mexted, referred to in preceding paragraph.

Westport.— loth ultimo, on warrant for theft of £I,OOO, the property of the O’Oonor Institute Board of Trustees, Arthur Leaver, age fifty, height 5 ft. 10in., saddler and indent agent, native of New Zealand, medium erect build, broad shoulders, fair complexion and moustache, blue eyes; dressed in a dark or grey suit, soft-felt hat turned down all round, and wears a gold double watch-chain, with gold pendant attached ; wears spectacles ; good appearance. Accused, who was formerly Mayor of Westport, and ex officio a member of the O’Conor Institute Board of Trustees, received from the Public Trustee a cheque for £3,445 on terms requiring him to account for the proceeds thereof to the above trustees. He fraudulently omitted to account for £I,OOO, thereby committing theft, being an indictable offence punishable by law in New Zealand. He left this Dominion for Australia on the 23rd ultimo. Extradition desired if located in Australian States. (P. 20/740.)

Greymouth. — 2sth ultimo, on warrant for failing to provide for the future maintenance of his unborn illegitimate child, Alec Gunn, age twenty-four, height about 5 ft. 10 in., farmer, native of New Zealand, strong build, fresh complexion, fair hair ; usually dressed in riding-breeches and puttees, blue coat and vest, and fawn-felt hat. Complainant, Isabel Annie Glass, domestic, Harihari.

Christchurch. —13th ultimo, for false pretences, John Harper Page, age about forty, height 5 ft. 8 in., traveller, medium build, pale complexion, brown hair turning grey, blue eyes ; well dressed in a brown suit; good appearance. Accused, who boarded at the Kaiapoi Hotel, Kaiapoi, on the 11th and 13th ultimo, tendered to Daniel Francis McMullan, licensee, a valueless cheque for £5 on the National Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, receiving £3 12s. in change. , Christchurch. —On or about the 10th ultimo, on warrant for theft of a dress-suit (recovered), a pair of gloves, six handkerchiefs, and some socks, total value £9 3s. 6d., the property of Arthur Flowers, master of Christ’s College, 7 Gloucester Street, H. E. Soloman, alias Jack Akitana, age twenty-six, height 5 ft. 10in., sugar-boiler and porter, native of Tasmania, strong build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair ; dressed in a grey sport’s suit, tan leggings and boots, and cap. Accused, who was employed under the name Jack Akitana as porter at the above college, sold the dress-suit and other property stolen from the same place to a second-hand dealer for £lO. He is supposed to be identical with J. McLean, alias Austin, referred to in Police Gazette, 1920, page 294. His correct name is Frank Jesse Rose. (See Property stolen, this issue.)

Sydenham.— llth February last, that he may be compelled to maintain his daughter, Olive Madeline Palmer, an inmate of Christchurch Receiving Home, Arthur Stanley Palmer, age fifty, height 5 ft. 7 in., dealer and fellmonger, native of New Zealand, fresh complexion, fair hair going bald, blue eyes. He is supposed to be identical with man of same name referred to in Police Gazette, 1919, page 546.

Dunedin. —Ist instant, on warrant for theft of £2, the property of Elizabeth Maud Pledger, 89 Canongate Street, William Theodore Thompson, age about thirty, height about 5 ft. 8 in., labourer and ex-navy-man, native of England, strong build, fresh complexion, golden hair, hazel eyes, clean-shaved, thick lips, protruding upper lip, one upper right tooth missing, . scar below one ear, Alice and “Ferns” on each wrist, “Rule Britannia” on left upper arm, tombstone on one arm ; dressed in a light-grey suit, tan boots or shoes, light-felt hat with black band, and roughtweed double-breasted brown heavy overcoat. Accused, who was staying at complainant’s house, was given £2 with which to pay a fortnight’s rent to Park Reynolds. He failed to pay the rent, and disappeared.
