PERSONS WANTED.
Auckland. —17th June last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for seventy-two hours in default of paying £2 3s. fine and costs for obstructing the police, William Barnett, age thirty, height 5 ft. 7$ in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, flags on left forearm, anchor, flags, and woman’s head on right forearm. (See Police Gazette, 1915, page 355, and Photographs, 1910, page 55.)
Auckland. July last, on warrant of commitment to Auckland Prison for two months in default of paying £l9 arrears due on a maintenance order for the support of his illegitimate child, of whom Lily Winifred Rosevear is the mother, Harold James Cozens, alias Cooper, alias McLean, alias George Swain, age thirtytwo, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, Native of New Zealand, medium build, fresh complexion, dark-brown hair turning grey, brown eyes, scar on left forearm, on left wrist and thumb, and on left ring-finger. Auckland. —21st ultimo, . on warrant of commitment to military custody in default of paying £1 13s. fine and costs for failing to attend parades, Robert Stevenson, age twenty-three, height 5 ft. 8 in., warehouseman, medium build, dark hair, thin features, oleau-shaved ; smart appearance.
Auckland. — 28th February last, on warrant of commitment to Dunedin Prison for forty-eight hours in default of paying 13s. fine and costs for a breach of his prohibition order, John Wynn, alias Wynne, age fifty-two, height 5 ft. 7 in., boilermaker, native of England, stout build, fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes. (See Police Gazette, 1918, page 396, and Photographs, page 35.)
Featherston.— 22nd May last, for escaping from Featherston Internment Camp, Joseph David Houlder, age twenty-eight, height 5 ft. 7in., labourer, medium build, dark or olive complexion, curly dark-brown hair, grey eyes; dressed in a brown-tweed suit and dark-felt hat; speaks good English ; supposed to have a slight lisp. He was a prisoner of war, and claimed to be a native of Switzerland.
Wellington. 2nd instant, that a distress warrant for £24 10s. arrears of maintenance due for the support of her child, an inmate of Wellington Receiving Home, may be executed upon her effects, Elizabeth Parker, age about forty-six, height 5 ft. 1 in., domestic, native of New Zealand, slight build, sallow complexion, dark hair and eyes, thin features ; usually slovenly dressed. Wellington. —9th ultimo, on warrant for theft of two blankets, a rug, and a towel (recovered), value £1 125., the property of Charles Priestley, boardinghouse-keeper, 149 Willis Street, McCartney, age about thirty-four, height about 5 ft. 7 in., labourer, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes; usually dressed in a dark-grey suit and cap ; slightly stooped.
Wellington. — 2Bth September last, on warrant for false pretences, Henry Richard Brett, age fifty-five, height 5 ft. 6in., baker, native of England, medium build, pale oomplexion, light-brown hair turning grey, scar on left wrist; drags his feet when walking. Accused and his wife obtained £32 from Alexander Lorrimer Wilson, auctioneer, 151 Lambton Quay, by falsely representing that a piano which complainant purchased from them was their own property and free of any claim, whereas £2O was owing on it to Messrs. Laidlaw and Gray (Limited), Dunedin. (See following paragraph.)
Wellington.-— 2Bth September last, on warrant for false pretences, Catherine Brett, age fifty-four, height 5 ft. 4in., native of New Zealand, stout build, fresh complexion, grey hair ; fond of drink. Accused and her husband obtained £32 from Alexander Lorrimer Wilson, auctioneer, 151 Lambton Quay, by falsely representing that a piano which complainant purchased from them was their own property and free of any claim, whereas £2O was owing on it to Messrs. Laidlaw and Gray (Limited), Dunedin. (See preceding paragraph.)
Westport. — 2lst ultimo, that he may be compelled to maintain his sister, an inmate of Christchurch Mental Hospital, James O’Neill or O’Neil, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 9 in., labourer and sawmill hand, good build, fresh complexion, light-brown hair, clean-shaved. (See Police Gazette, 1919, page 452.)
Christchurch. —Bth ultimo, on warrant for forgery and uttering, John Henry, age about thirty, height 5 ft. 6 in., labourer, native of New Zealand, medium build, dark hair and complexion; slightly lame. He was dressed in khaki uniform, but may now be wearing a grey heavy overcoat, felt hat, and tan boots. Accused, who was living with people named Clinton, forged the name of Alice M. Clinton to a cheque for £3l 125., and uttered it to Edward Turton, manager, New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association, Canterbury. He may be living with a prostitute named Armitage.
Invercargill. 3oth ultimo, on warrant for false pretences, George Scopes, age about forty, height 5 ft. 4 in., farm and station hand, medium build, fresh complexion, brown hair ; talkative. Accused obtained a dark-grev striped overcoat, a green-canvas overcoat, a brown suit (size 3), a brown soft- hat, a black-oilskih sou’-wester, three pairs of woollen underpants, two Union shirts, three pairs of blnck woollen socks, and a pair of Police braces (value £l6 14s. Id.), and £lB ss. lid., from John Matthew Dore, care of Hallenstein Bros , clothiers, Dee Street, by means of a valueless cheque for £35. He may be accompanied by his wife, who is noticeably pregnant, and two children. He may assume the name Thompson, and may be found wearing some of the articles of clothing mentioned- There are other similar charges pending.
