INQUIRIES, ETC., FROM OUTSIDE NEW ZEALAND.

Darlinghurst.— A warrant has been issued by the Water Police Bench for the arrest of Larnach Orchard, charged with wife-desertion. He is about twenty-five years of age, 5 ft. 8 in. high, thin build, fair moustache only; dressed in a blue-serge suit and straw hat; habitually twitches his face ; an Englishman ; addicted to drink. Lately employed as liftman at the “ Hotel Australia.” Supposed to have gone to New Zealand. Complainant, Jennie Orchard, 231 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst. Sydney. —A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Aubery Francis Smith for disobeying an order of the Court to pay 15s. per week for the maintenance of his wife. Description: Age twenty - five, height 5 ft. 6 in., wharf labourer, stout build, fair complexion, fair hair, blue eyes, clean-shaved; dressed in blue-serge suit, grey Dr. Jim hat or grey-tweed cap; is a member of the Wharf Labourers’ Union. He left Sydney for New Zealand on the 26th September last. Amount now due in arrears £4 10s. For inquiry only, that he may be induced to contribute to the support of his wife and child, who are in destitute circumstances. (08/2534.)

C. ” on front case; a rolled-gold neck-chain, rope-pattern, minus clasp ; a square gold brooch, set with diamond-shape mother-of-pearl, coloured diagonal lines thereon, greenstone in centre, small heart attached at bottom; a four-shilling piece made into a brooch, dated 1888; a gold pick-and-shovel brooch, dish in centre, specks of gold on pick, shovel, and dish, bunch of grapes and leaves on handles of pick and shovel; an 18 ct. gold wedding-ring, much worn ; a four-shilling piece ; a gold knob pin, New Zealand greenstone fish attached by chain; a gold knob pin, New Zealand greenstone emu attached ; a gold knob pin, New Zealand greenstone bell attached ; a round gold looket pendant, size of half-crown, front chased, and has three stars thereon, set with rubies and pearls, contained two boys’ photos, very fine neck-chain (been broken and repaired) attached; a round gold pendant, chased, four stars on front, set with two turquoises and two pearls, minus one turquoise, neck-chain attached, fine square links, clasp broken ; a cat’s-eye stone ;

a blue oameo, woman’s head thereon, mounted with narrow rolled-gold band ; a wire name-brooch,“ Florrie,” blue-enamel front, minus pin ; a chased-silver oblong purse, plain oval space each side, demon’s head underneath ; a silver chain, flat oval links, chased-silver Maltese Gross attached; a silver medal, size of two-shilling piece, “0. G. ” on it; a silver medal, size of a shilling, “0. G.” on it; a silver medal, “Dux of E.S.P.G.S.” on it; a silver medal, “ P.S.A.A.A., 1904,” on it; two silver medals, size of twoshilling piece, chased floral design; a nickel-plated belt, oblong links, four pear-shaped holes in each link ; a gold oval scarf-pin, set with a ruby, four milk-stones, and three opals (one missing) ; a gold cable bangle, padlock attached, “Louie” and “ N.Z.” thereon; a mother-of-pearl brooch, ladies’ hand holding a bunch of flowers ; a silver brooch, New Zealand fern pattern, “ S.L.” and “X.” on back; a silver ring, “Forget-me-not” thereon; three bottles of scent; a tin of Colgate’s toilet-powder; a gentlemen’s soft white shirt, “ Brennan, draper, Newtown,” on tab. Identifiable, except money. No person suspected. A coffeecoloured Chesterfield overcoat, minus lining, velvet collar, was found close by, probably left by offender. Total value, £ls. (08/2569.)
